Obituary of Garry Peter Stackhouse
Garry Stackhouse, age 71 of Eastern Passage, passed away on December 3, 2022 following a lengthy illness with cancer. A retired power engineer, he previously worked long shifts in the boiler rooms of Dalhousie University, Shearwater Base, Camp Hill Hospital, Mount Saint Vincent University, and the steam plant of Texaco (Ultramar) refinery.
He taught his daughters the value of hard work and that they could take on any career they set their mind to. In his early years, he enjoyed taking his family camping at Kejimkujik National Park on his days off and teaching them Chess and Crib. He also enjoyed gatherings with family and friends and playing cards. He was an avid reader and would keep up to date with world news, allowing him to converse on a variety of topics.
He had the ‘gift of gab’ and would strike up a conversation with anyone wherever he went.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary; daughter, Cathy Giordani (Luigi); grandchildren, Amanda Stackhouse, Kirsten Reside, and Matthew Giordani; brothers, Roy and Wayne.
He was predeceased by his mother, Florence Margaret (McCarville); father, Roy; daughter, Karen Reside; and brothers, Leslie, Harold, and Darrell.
Cremation has taken place and as per Garry’s wishes a private gathering will be held at a later date as per his wishes. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
