Apologies for the late condolences but I was out of the country. The Leechs were long-time friends of my parents, Bill and Mary Leeder and I had occasion to spend time with them many many times over the years. We spent many weekends at their "cottage" in Lagoon City and many New Years where Al obligingly played the "New Years Baby" by going out the back door and coming in the front door at midnight. I spoke to him a while ago when he was concerned that he couldn't reach my mother by phone and wanted to make sure everything was okay. He sounded the same as the day I met him. He and Anne were two of the nicest people you could ever meet. I am glad I had that opportunity. My condolences to Dorothy and Franklin on their loss.

I first crossed paths with Al and Anne in the offices of Dupont Canada, in the Montreal of the 1960's. My husband, Bill Leeder, had been transferred to a new office in Toronto and Al had been selected as his replacement in Montreal. Bill and Al worked together for a few months to insure a smooth transition before we moved back to Ontario.
Al and Anne followed us to Toronto in the early '70's, moving to Senlac Rd. in Willowdale. It was at this point that they acquired what they called 'their little cabin in the country' at Lagoon City on Lake Simcoe. No one who visited would ever have described it as a 'little cabin'. Anne and Al (and Cindy), despite being some of the original 'homesteaders', managed to transform the property into a beautiful home, in which everyone was welcome. Bill and I spent many weekends with them there as well as enjoying their company on multiple holidays in Hawaii, Florida and the Caribbean.
Following Al's retirement from Dupont they moved permanently to 'Goon City' as Al liked to call it, but wanderlust seemed to take hold and they subsequently moved From Lagoon City to Port Perry to Oshawa and points in between before finally deciding to return to Anne's roots on the east coast. Despite the distance, and time difference, they always managed to keep in touch. I spoke with Al for the final time in December, just before Christmas. We talked for over an hour, remembering times long gone now.
I missed Anne dearly after her passing and I shall miss Al just as much now that he is gone. Good-bye to both of them. We are all at an age where we are running out of friends.
Mary Leeder

Like the obituary said, he was quite a people person and treated everyone here in Chester well. Lots of pictures to remember him by and also Anne. May they rest in peace.

Hi Dorothy and Franklin:. I just finished reading your lovely tributes to our sweet Allan. I'm one of the Tim Horton's gang who had the pleasure of his company most mornings unless he was helping someone out by driving them to their appointments or to pick up their cars etc. He was a smart guy, great sense of humour and a dedicated partner to Anne. We all looked forward to Al's appearance at Tim's, listening to his stories about his parents and sibling and growing up at Box 82, Newboro Ontario. He was such a positive force. I'll miss him incredibly.

Good-bye my dear brother - thank you for your love and support throughout my life. I remember the night you were born at our home - it was a lovely moonlit night. Thank you for being there through so many long, lonely, and embarrassing days when I lived in Brockville. Thank you for growing to know and love my wonderful Franklin … May your memory be blessed. Your sister, Dorothy.
