Obituary of Maxine Isabella Allen

Please share a memory of Maxine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maxine Isabella Allen, age 84, of Melanson, Kings County, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2023, in the Valley Hospice, in Kentville. Born on June 29, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Jean) Smith.

Maxine was a stay at home mother and grandmother, always ensuring her sons and grandchildren were well looked after. She loved to bake, especially for festive occasions where her treats were always a hit.  She was an active member of the Wallbrook Baptist Church and the Melanson Community Hall.

If there is a definition of a “Hockey Mom”, it’s Maxine. She didn’t drive but spent a lot of time at games involving her sons and grandsons. She travelled the province to watch them play and show her support. In the summer you could also find her at the ballfields.

Maxine is survived by her adored sons, Gary (Nancy), Greg (Marlene), David (Denise) and Duane; special niece, Danette (Adrian); grandchildren, Stephen, Brett, Matthew, Jonathan, Brandon, Kristin, and Alicia; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Margie (Clarke).

Besides her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Stephen; son, Dale; daughter, Margaret (in infancy); and grandson, Jason.

Special thanks to the VON for their care throughout the years and to Glenda Landry for the frequent visits and care shown. As well, our gratitude to the staff of the Valley Regional Hospital, especially Nurse Sharon, and the Valley Hospice for helping her to find comfort.

A Service will be held on April 16, 2023 at 2:00 pm  in the Melanson Mountain Cemetery. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
