Obituary of Earl William Wilson

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl William Wilson, also lovingly known as “Shorty” or “Buck”, age 90, passed away peacefully in Grand View Manor, on February 19, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Formerly of Oak Park, Barrington, he was the son of the late James Arlington and Florence  Flossie  (Davis) Wilson.

Earl started commercial driving at a very young age and devoted his entire life to it, traveling all across Canada and the USA. He worked for companies such as Overland Western, Scott’s Transport, Harold Newell Trucking, and Leigh Nickerson Trucking. He made many memorable long-haul trips with his good friend, Bill Sampson.

Earl was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Kingsway Assembly. He had a love for music, especially the guitar and harmonica. Earl would often display his talents for all to enjoy at the Church he attended. He was also an avid sports fan and could often be found taking in a Toronto Blue Jays game. He also enjoyed playing crib, pool, or going bowling with his buddies. He relished in the many hours fishing with his friend, Gerald Bishop. Earl never wanted to retire, after moving to Kentville, he continued apple and berry picking, or driving the bus to carry other workers to the fields, until his illness would no longer allow it.

Earl is survived by wife, Meredith; children, Lori Ritenburg, Richard Wilson, and William Wilson; step-children, Leo Leach, Archie Leach, Dawn Curran, Lisa Johnstone, Andrew Smith; as well as  16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and  8 great great-grandchildren.

Earl had many siblings including brothers, Harold, Lewis, Charlie, and Arthur; and sisters, Emma, Wilma, Leora, Florence, Joyce, Laura, and Helen.

In addition to his parents, Earl was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Pauline (Nickerson); step-children, Sandy Gula and John Leach Sr.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grand View Manor and Dr. Matthew Targett for taking such good care of Earl during his time there.
