Obituary of James Allison Harvey
James Allison Harvey, 95 of Windsor (formerly of Coldbrook/Kentville), passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 in the Windsor Elms, Fundy View Neighborhood. Born on June 4, 1927 in Kentville, James was the last surviving child of the late Barry Sutton and Margaret May (Mahar) Harvey.
James dedicated from 1945 to 1947 of his life to the army. Once he left the military, James went to work for Baxter Milk and Dairy Products, for a few years. He decided to leave Baxter Milk to become a taxi driver with Bishops in Wolfville. James enjoyed working with the public and made the decision to work for himself and own his own taxi. He did this from his home with his wife as the dispatcher. During the time he owned his taxi service, he worked sanitation at Acadia during the day and kept with the taxi in the evening until about 1990. In 1990, James turned 54 and it was in this year he had suffered an aneurism in the side of his neck. This limited his travels and work ability, following this he would travel with his daughter and worked a bit of volunteer. James would also mow the lawn in the Melanson Cemetery to keep himself busy. James was also a member of the Gems and Jewels Seniors and of the Walbrook Baptist Church.
James will be lovingly remembered by his children, Andrea Harvey, Roy (Heather) Harvey, and Joy Harvey (Paul); grandchildren, Alison Harvey/Lambert (Josh), Halifax; Amber Harvey/England (Andrew), Sunken Lake; Maggie-jean Kalkman (Brad), Coldbrook; Trevor Kalkman, Berwick; Alex Kalkman, Kentville; sisters-in-law, Gwen Harvey, Kentville; Jane Harvey, New Minas; Florence Harvey, Kentville; Cheryl Smith, Wolfville; Ella Rankine (Dave), New Minas; Ellen (Jack) Bennet, Ontario; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kira England; special mention, Deric Harvey and Maxine Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his loving wife, Berneda Mae Harvey; brothers, Clyde, Gordon, George, Morris, Robert, and Kenny; sisters, Eleanor Haggerty, Leota O’Connoll, and Joan Arnburg; brother-in-law, Alex Smith; sister-in-law, Elva Williams; nieces, Betty Huntley and Myrna Harvey.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm in the Gaspereau Baptist Church. Family Flowers only.
