Obituary of Orlando John Morganti

Please share a memory of Orlando to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Orlando John Morganti, age 69, of Digby, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 27, 2023. Also known as “OJ” or “Lanny”, he was the son of the late Orlando and Josephine (VanTassel) Morganti.

Losing his mum at the young age of six, made OJ a very resourceful youth who was always full of mischief and fun. As a young man living in Montreal, QC, he worked delivering groceries on a bike, bartending and at Canadian Pacific Railway before moving to Ottawa to learn architectural landscaping and becoming a talented artist in the field. OJ also lived and worked in Vancouver, BC, before moving to Nova Scotia.

OJ was a wealth of knowledge from his life experiences and travels and an avid reader, many enjoyed his stories and sense of humour. He was always willing to help those in need, especially the young or elderly. His similes and tender heart will be missed by his nieces and nephews, young and old, family, friends, and especially by his big sister, Velvet.

“Rest in peace OJ, you are with the loving angels that went before you.”

OJ is survived by sisters, Velvet (John) Weir, of Digby; and Judy Morganti, of Hamilton, ON; son, Brandon Renwick, of Scotland; daughter, Gemma Renwick, of Scotland; and brother-in-law, Mark Smalley, of Montreal, QC.

In addition to his parents, OJ was predeceased by his sisters, Carole (Joe) Weir, of Nova Scotia; Sharon (Bob) Nangreaves, of Montreal, QC; Heather (Chris) Wright, of Ottawa, ON; and Bonnie Smalley, of Montreal, QC.

Cremation has taken place and OJ’s wishes were not to have a celebration of his life, he would wish you to remember him by paying it forward in your own way. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
