Obituary of Paula Smith

Mary Priscilla “Paula” (Donovan) Smith, age 82 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2023, in the Dartmouth General Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. 

Born in Glace Bay, Paula served with the RCAF from 1959 to 1965.   While stationed in Beaver Bank, Paula met her loving husband Gerry and they were married for 43-years until Gerry’s passing in 2008. Paula worked at Dartmouth Regional Library, retiring 11-years ago at the age of 71. 

Paula enjoyed playing cards, fitness, lawn bowling, and many concert events.  She valued the many social activities with her friends and neighbors at her apartment building on Freshwater Trail.  Paula was well known for her baking and everyone will miss her freezer jam, homemade bread, and date squares.

Paula will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her son, Michael (Melissa), Dartmouth; daughter, Linda (Andre), Sudbury, Ont.; grandchildren, Connor Smith, Dartmouth, Logan and Gabrielle Comeau, Sudbury, Ont.; sister, Colleen Rideout, Glace Bay; sister-in-law, Edith Allen, Hantsport. 

Paula was predeceased by her 13 brothers and sisters.

Cremation has taken place. A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Road, Dartmouth, with a Memorial Service and reception to follow.  A private family burial to take place in Falmouth Cemetery following the Memorial Service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
