Obituary of Douglas Lowell Manuel

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas “Doug” Lowell Manuel, age 83 of Coldbrook, on May 30, 2023, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Queensland, he was the son of the late Clarence and Silva (Harnish) Manuel.

After Doug graduated from Halifax County Vocational School, he went to work for Butler Brothers as an apprentice carpenter on the Bayer’s Road Shopping Centre. He proudly served for 29 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, twice in Germany (NATO), Syria (UN), and across Canada. Doug later worked for Defence Construction and Canadian Forces Housing Agency until his retirement. He was a member and enjoyed spending time at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #98, Kingston.

Doug was an exceptional man who always had a smile and loved to laugh, loved his country music, and more than anything else truly loved his family. He also enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball.

Douglas will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Heather (Phillips); step-sons, Jeffery (Aleida) Graves and Michael (Suzanne) Graves; brother, Albert (Lois);  sister, Hazel Boutilier; sister-in-law, Denise Manuel; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his sister, Marie (Willis) Clancy; and brother, Lawrence.

A Memorial Service will be held on June 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in the Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Navigator Fund.
