Leroy “Roy” Appleton Cleaves, 80 of Moschelle, passed away June 12, 2023, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. He was born in Annapolis Royal to the late Russel and Dorothy (Wile) Cleaves.
Roy worked as a furnace technician in Truro for several years before returning home to Moschelle and working at CFB Cornwallis until it closed in 1995. He continued to work several more years; first at a local gas station, followed by the former tire recycling plant in Cornwallis, and lastly, as a logger before retiring entirely. He enjoyed hunting, working in the woods, fishing, gardening as well as a good game of crib or darts over a “cold one” with his friends at the local establishment. He will be fondly remembered for his annual summer family party, at his home in Moschelle.
Roy is survived by his son, Lonnie (Catherine) Cleaves, Cleveland, Ohio, USA; brother, Michael (Brenda), and sister-in-law, Peggy Robinson, both of Moschelle; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and his special companion, Mindy the cat.
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Olive, and his brother, Donald.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in St. Alban’s Anglican Cemetery, Lequille. Donations in Roy’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
