Obituary of Bernard Ralph Avery

Bernard Ralph Avery, age 77, of New Minas, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2023, in the Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Baxter’s Harbour on March 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Ernest and Myrtle (Brewster) Avery.

Bernard was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadians. He was famous for stealing Jenny’s grocery cart while at the SuperStore or Walmart, and then be found talking hockey with someone in another aisle.  He enjoyed a good game of crokinole with anyone and often looked forward to playing a game with his grandson, Jordan. Bernard was also very social, you could often find him at Tim Hortons chatting or teasing with everyone around him, even if you didn’t know him; he especially enjoyed teasing the servers at The Big Stop during his many visits.

Bernard will be remembered by his wife, Jenny of New Minas; son, John Gaudet of Saulnierville; grandchildren, Jordan, Brianna, Alex, Connor, Jonathan, and Kristen; step-sons, Dale (Andrea) and Dean (Janet).

In addition to his parents, Bernard was predeceased by his brothers, Hartley Avery and Bev Avery; and sister, Marion Keddy.

A Graveside Service will be held on July 16, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Baxter’s Harbour Cemetery. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Association.
