Through my childhood and teen years, you were my principal, Mr. Kennickell. To my daughter, you were her principal, Mr. K. However, in my adult years, you became my comrade at the Legion, and we were fast friends. That’s when you became JK. We had many laughs, celebrations, games of pool, and a few ice-cold adult beverages. Looking back, you were part of my life for most of it, and for that, I am forever thankful. Rest easy, JK, and I hope you’re still making sure band aids end up on fingers instead of eyebrows. A laugh we will always have between us! Xoxo

So sorry to hear about the loss of this great man. I have fond memories of Jim when playing darts at the legion and was even lucky enough to have a dance or two at a friend's wedding held there. Jim was always smiling and very kind. He will be missed.

I am saddened to learn of Jim's passing. I always admired his ability as a school administrator to put things in "perspective" and be always supportive of staff and students. I extend my condolences to his family and colleagues and pray that the happy memories of his life are a comfort to you.

Condolences to all of Jim's family....Jim and I grew up in Lower Canard and were friends and classmates. We both went off to college and our lives did cross paths several times in the past years. It was always a pleasure to see and catch up on events in our lives. We had many great memories of growing up in Lower Canard , our small two room school and visiting at his home so, Ruth could cut my hair. During this difficult time, keep all your memories in your heart.

In 1990, we met with Mr. Kennickell to discuss our 5 year old son, Cameron, who had Down Syndrome starting school. Mr. Kennickell accepted him with open arms and gave him every opportunity available at school. Cameron is 38 now and a very independent man. We never forgot Mr. Kennickell and are so grateful to him. Rest in peace. Sincere condolences to his family. Isabel and Ian Cook.

To Jim's family, we express our deepest condolences. He was a true friend and comrade. Met Jim through the Legion and had great respect for him. We played pool and darts on many occasions.
Mabel says she's still waiting for you to go to Bingo with her. Only the two of you know about this ongoing joke.
We will miss you and the guidance you offered over the years.
RIP dear friend.

We met JK during our time at the Legion. He was a great man - had the best sense of humour, was a great pool player, he loved to jive (and teach it), and he was very knowledgeable on current affairs and travel, which made for some great conversations waiting for the next table to open. And he was fun - quick to tease but could take it too. We were really sorry to learn of his passing and send our condolences to his family, friends and his Legion family and know he’ll be sorely missed.

Like so many others, I was hired by Jim. A kind and gentle man, he knew virtually EVERY child (and their family) who came through the doors of UDS. Jim was a man of integrity and could be counted on for counsel and support when it was needed. I doubt he realized the profound influence he had so many people in the UDS/Mount Uniacke community. Rest in peace, Jim - I’ll miss you.

He will always be Mr Kennickell to me, I really respected him as my Principal at UDS in the 80s. Even though I was sent to the office for doing nefarious things in class, he still showed a great level of respect.
This past summer, I moved back to NS, I was able to connect with Mr Kennickell again, this time as JK at the Legion in Mt Uniacke. He definitely remembered who I was. We just laughed at how many times Mrs Blois (Grade 2 teacher at the time) sent me and my best friend sent me to the office.
Thank you for the fond memories.
