Obituary of Dwight Durling

Douglas “Dwight” Durling, age 78, of Prospect, Kings County, passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Friday, October 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Berwick, he was the son of the late Layton and Ivy (Nowlan-Caldwell) Durling.

Dwight lived his entire life in Prospect. As a youth he worked on local farms and later for Howard Little Excavating, before retiring from  the Department of Highways.

He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed country music, spending time outdoors, hunting and on his four-wheeler.

Dwight will be remembered by his wife of 47 years, Margaret (Pemberton), Prospect; daughter, Tanya (Trevor) Guitard, New Minas; granddaughters, Brielle and Mila Guitard; sisters, Helen Griffin, Coquitlam, BC; and Jean Griffin, Port Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was predeceased by his son, Glen; half brothers, Fraser and Donald Caldwell; brothers, Alden, Mac, Harm, Ron, and Allie Durling; and sister, Elsie Cotter.

The family would like to thank first responders and the Emergency Room staff of Valley Regional Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to Dwight and his family. 

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. Memorial donations may be made to Valley Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Navigator Program or Valley Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
