It was such a pleasure knowing your Mom, and also your Dad.
We looked forward seeing them each time we went into McDonald's.
Loretta was always there with an ear.
Such a very kind hearted lady. Mac was also had a hug for me each time we went in to McDonald's.
This is such a great great loss for all who knew her...
She/they will certainly be missed
In God's hands now...safe

I'm so sorry to hear of Loretta's passing. She was quite the lady, and such an entertainer on the piano with her beloved Mac!
Loretta also sponsored four students over the years, making it possible for them to attend school in Madagascar. When I told her of another special needs child she just said "Sign her up for me!" She certainly was a giver, who generously shared with others in need.
On behalf of the Madagascar School Project thank you to Loretta and her family for your dedication to sending her love and hope to all God's children. Her kindness and open-heartedness will be greatly missed.
With heart-felt gratitude for a life well lived,
Kathy

Though I knew Loretta only a short time,I grew to Love her. We bonded almost immediately. On our first meeting we talked a lot about her family and friends and the Love she had for all of them.
She shared stories of her childhood. We sang together, prayed together, and drank a few iced coffees. Did puzzles, and watched the wheel. Great memories I will always cherish. I will miss you Loretta, but know you are with your beloved Malcolm. We will meet some day in Heaven, and sing together again, maybe you will teach me to play the piano. Say Hi to my Mom when you meet her!! Condolences to Beth, Bruce Kathy, your grandchildren and great grandchildren whom some I had met
Sincerely,Melanie (Mel) Murphy

More memories with Loretta:
Grampie Sabean walked Loretta home (about ¼ mile) one night after she’d gone to spend the night at his house. When it started to get dark, she felt sick and needed to go home. She always talked about it and remembered the sleepover with her aunt that was short-lived.
Did you know that Digby was a good place to get tried out for your driver’s license? Less traffic, three passengers and bucket seats . . . Loretta’s backseat passenger pushed on the back of her seat when she should shift in Racquette Hill! Who do you suppose that was? (Mac)
The same car that Loretta used to get her driver’s license was used as a taxi one evening years ago. Loretta’s cousins and I were coming from Dartmouth back to Halifax to spend the night. Mac had taken the back out of the car and thrown all carpentry and work tools in back. I got the passenger seat, while the girls squatted on work tools. As we all laughed, I mentioned that we had to quit laughing because Loretta always closes her eyes when she laughs. I wanted to think she was watching the road but how could she with all girls (4 of 5) having so much fun!
One day as we were driving from a campground in the US to a laundromat, we wondered what just flew past the window. We came to a quick stop and backed up and found Loretta’s purse, which apparently had been on the roof of the car. We laughed all the way to the laundromat and never forgot this incident.

Beth, Kathy and Bruce,
I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I have such great memories of her from those summers we spent in Nova Scotia. We, as young teenagers, always thought we could pull one over on her but she always knew what we were doing and would tell us to “smarten up”. I remember how much fun we had camping too. I especially remember your mom and dad laughing a lot. She will be missed.

To the family of Loretta MacDougall I send my heartfelt condolences. I just learned of her passing, too late to attend the Memorial and I’m very sorry. My best childhood memory is of coming to the house and smelling the delicious aroma of freshly baked chocolate sweets. I was always offered one and may have taken 1 or 2 without permission at times. My thoughts are with you all.

It is with sadness to learn of the passing of a Wonderful Lady , Loretta, We had some cherished memories in the kitchen of the Hicks downstairs kitchen. Mac was my go-to fellow to carve the meat for these special occasions- excellent job. Loretta and I burnt Betty Anne’s special dish for lunch, she wanted to try it, we had to tell her it was all gone (it was, burnt, put in garbage) we always remembered that! I shall always remember these two special people who made a difference in so many peoples lives. Love and forever remembered!RIP

Loretta and cousin Vivian were walking home from school one day just as it started to rain. Because they walked by Grammie's house, Loretta decided she'd go in and borrow an old coat to put over their heads to keep dry. Well, they walked and laughed, not paying attention as to where they were going. They walked right into the brook beside Loretta's home so were soaking wet . . . but not from the rain!

"Sweetie" Loretta--how I loved her so much, and it's so hard for me to carry on without my loving nieces and nephews. Loretta's uplifting laugh I will never forget, and I'll remember all of the fun things we did together, even teaching her how to swim in the brook in South Range.
I pray for God's blessings and divine love on Beth, Kathy and Bruce at this sad time in the loss of their mother.

Dear Beth, Kathy and Bruce,
I'm so sorry for this loss although it is such a blessing to know she is healthy and happy in heaven now.
I will always treasure the memories of the Easter weekend before the pandemic that my sister and I were able to spend visiting Nova Scotia and the special times we had with your parents. I'm so grateful that I was able to attend Easter Sunday services with your mom. She was such a dear lady. Just being with her was such a blessing.
May you find comfort in the many years of wonderful memories and the legacy left.
Love, Flora Jean (Shepard) O'Hara from Vermont

Molly, my St. John’s Ambulance therapy dog, and I visit Lewis Hall on a weekly basis. I met Loretta and her daughter on our visits. I must admit she wasn’t a great dog lover but what I witnessed was the love that the staff had for Loretta. They were always making sure she was part of the activities, wheeling her close to the nursing station, and giving her impromptu hugs and telling her they loved her. She was well loved
Treasure your memories

Just wanted you, Beth, Kathy, Bruce and families that I have read and reread the obituary. Learning of the death of your mom has brought back lots of memories. For example, I was brought up in the house she was brought up in until she was a teenager. My parents, Eldred and Maizie Marshall bought this house from your grandparents, Uncle Ken and Aunt Susie. I remember them very well because of their visits back home to South Range. The same with your mom and dad, always friendly and visiting us when they made the trip down as well. I remember your mom’s smile. So pretty and genuine. Love to all from Diane & Scott White.
