Dorothy Donahoe

Obituary of Dorothy Ann Donahoe

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy was born in Montague, PEI, and lived on the family farm in Roseneath with her parents and three siblings until she was thirteen when the family decamped to Montague to be closer to school and work.

After high school, she spent time at both SDU and later Prince of Wales before leaving for Halifax to work there. She remained a resident of HRM for the rest of her life. She married young, and later divorced. She never remarried and raised her daughter, for the most part, on her own.

She worked first in banking and accounting/bookkeeping roles. Later she took on management and oversight positions, often doing extra shifts, like many single mothers, to provide for her loved ones. In her later years, she worked in to her seventies, and enjoyed the role of staff and shift supervisor first with Pinkertons and later Securitas.

Without a doubt her favourite role was as grandmother, G-ma, as she was known by Jacob and Jaden, and later by Jacob and Rene’s three children, Clayton, Tristan, and Summer. Dorothy will live on in their memories for her devotion and care, for her love and compassion for family members going through rough times, for her dedication as a provider, and her selflessness in meeting the needs of her loved ones.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Thomas More, 15 Caledonia Road, Dartmouth, on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in late June at All Saints Roman Catholic Cemetery in Cardigan, PEI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Halifax Hospice or to Bryony House Shelter in Dartmouth. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
