My sincere condolences to Ken's family and friends. As noted by many others, we were lucky to meet Ken through our summers in the 78th at the Halifax Citadel, and are grateful for knowing him and remembering the laughter he brought to all of us. Seeing so many familiar names now is a testament to the memorable impact he made on everyone. Thanks Ken.

Ken was always a shining light in my day when dropping off or picking up Kroeger. His stories were endless and his sarcasm was great. Will miss him and we send love and prayers to Lisa, the kids and Kroeger.

I was so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. He and I served together in the 78th Highlanders and I remember a very friendly and interesting guy. Last year my son , who now serves in the 78th, came home and passed along "...regards from Ken Smith". Ken had visited the fort, talked to him for a while and then made the family connection - it brought back some great memories. My deep condolences to Ken's family , and in memory of my fellow Highlander ..."Caber feidh gu brath".

I met Ken at the Halifax Citadel where lifelong friendships were forged with a group of friends whose passion for military heritage and a pint (usually several) saw treasured memories made.
Ken's love for his family was clearly at the top of a long list of joys in life and I offer my deepest condolences to them at the loss of such a pillar in their lives. RIP Ken and thanks for being part of such memorable days of our youth.

I met Ken in the mid-80's while working with him in the 78th Highlanders/3rd Brigade RA on Citadel Hill. ken took his work seriously but was one of those guys who could switch off and have fun. A brilliant sense of humour, sarcasm and wit; and smart as hell. If you were haviing a bad day and he walked into the barracks, you couldn't help but smile and start laughing. Rest in Peace, Ken.
"The trumpets have been silenced
The boom of the rifle salute
But an echo on the wind
The solemn band once gathered
Have all gone home
A few stragglers remain
Tethered to tombstones
Or names etched in marble..."

I've known Ken since the 80's, and the time that we worked together as military interpreters for Parks Canada. I've also enjoyed a ride on his bus over the years. He was the kind of guy that lent life to any gathering, and he will be missed. Rest easy brother.
My heartfelt condolences to Lisa and their children.

Ken and I started at Halifax Transit around the similar time in 2000. We has many hours sitting around the lobby trading tales during our spareboard years , where we,as a group of the same guys and gals, would be in our report times waiting for work to be dispatched.
I quickly learned of Ken's incredibly sarcastic since of humor, often accompanied with a deadpan expression of a stand up comic. To say that report times could be entertaining and sometimes non politically correct woukd be accurate, but always in the realm of good humor.
Over the years we got out on some great motorcycle rides and great times were had, especially if Taqulia was involved.
The one thing that immediately stands out was the common bond between Ken and Lisa.
I have never seen such alike senses of humor between 2 people. And not because you rubbed off one another, because I knew you both before before you were a couple.
It is nice to see such similarly and definitely went against the saying that opposites attract.
Condolences to you Lisa,Shannon and Evan and of course to all your families and to Dale whom I also had the pleasure of working with ,and with his same sarcastic humor and wit as Ken.
In closing ,anyone who is reading this knows Ken , he was a fine man, a great son, husband, father, brother, friend and co-worker.
Rest in Peace Ken, one day we will meet again my friend.
