Albert “Bert” Brownell Baxter, December 6, 1961 - March 5, 2024. He was born to parents, Harold and Ora (Roode) Baxter.

The name Albert means noble and bright and our Bert lived up to that name every day of his life. Born with spina bifida, the youngest of 7 children, life challenged Bert from the very beginning. He continued to meet many challenges throughout his life, with surgeries on his back and lifesaving surgery on his pancreas.

Despite these challenges, Bert excelled at any sport he tried, climbed up and down ladders with his father building houses, and challenged many a younger man to a foot race, beating them soundly. A devoted family man, each child will carry the special love he had for them throughout their lives. He is hands down reigning champion of family game time.

Bert was a passionate man so anything he did, he did wholeheartedly. From fishing the elusive striped bass to cheering on Dale Sr and Jr, the Blue Jays and the Pats, to landscaping and improving our home, to his woodworking and carving, right down to how he shoveled the paths; everything done with pride and a love of life.

Bert's quick wit and sense of humor served him well in his 40 year career in auto part sales, with many a customer becoming much more, as loving friends. His time with Nova Ignition making him the last of a dying breed, when the bell rang at the door and the creak of the old wood floor brought in an old backyard mechanic with a piece of blackened worn down something, hoping Bert might somehow have a replacement. He loved his customers so, often listening to their stories and sharing a few of his own.

“Bert died with grace, knowing the fight was over, ready to rest without pain until his saviour returns, surrounded by his loving family. PEACE.”

Bert was deeply loved by all family and friends and his wife of 32 years, Karen (Caldwell) Baxter; and children, Matthew, Andrew, and Sarah (Kyle); grandchildren, Leo and Melody; faithful dog Willie; and siblings, Earl (Margaret), Fred (Paula), Darrell (Pam), Robert (Debbie), Linda (Don), and Geneva (Bob).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
