Obituary of Linda Lee Baker
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our kind, brave, caring, and unimaginably generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Linda Lee Baker (née Lonnee) with her best friend and soul mate Doug by her side on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Even in the face of her own tragedy, Linda remained a steadfast friend and confidant to everyone she knew. If she loved you, you knew it. She was a second mother to many and for the fortunate few she was affectionately referred to as Grammie #3. With so much adversity to face herself, she still ensured others around her were well taken care of.
Linda, the eldest of three children was born on July 29, 1951, to the late Donald and Eilleen (Ross) Lonnee, in Windsor, Ontario. Moving to Nova Scotia as a child with her family and after becoming a dental hygienist she met the love of her life and made Nova Scotia a permanent home. Married 52 years and raising two sons whom she adored and dedicated her life to raising Linda could often be found on the bleachers of the ball field cheering for her boys. She loved spending time with the other baseball mothers and always looked forward to their monthly lunch dates.
She took pride in her home and to say she loved working in her garden would be an understatement. Linda created beautiful gardens, and this was her happy place along with feeding the wildlife, especially the hummingbirds that were frequent visitors. If not found in her garden, she could be seen being driven around by Doug for endless early morning hours searching for the best yard sales.
Linda is survived and missed by her loving husband Douglas Baker, her cherished sons Paul Baker (Krista) of Red Deer, Alberta, and Darren Baker (Tara) of Red Deer, Alberta; treasured grandchildren Riley, Aliya, and Kaylem; beloved siblings sister Beverley Krewench (Ron), and brother Donald Lonnee; brothers-in-laws Neil Baker, David Baker, Donald Baker (Joyce); sisters-in-laws Linda Moulaison (John) and Diane Barteaux (Kevin); nephews Ted (Krisie), Denis (Lindsay), Brad (Stephanie), and Danny (Sabrina).
Linda was predeceased by father-in-law Edward Baker and mother-in-law Irene Baker.
Linda will fondly be remembered and missed by her many friends whom she cherished. She developed these friendships at each stage of her life, with most of them lasting throughout the entirety of her life. Her kindness, grace, compassion, and beautiful soul will live on in those who were honored to know her. The table of 8 (you all know who you are) is forever changed. These special moments spent with friends were something she looked forward to and cherished.
A special thank you to the Doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General Hospital 5 West, Wanda and Robert Rafuse, Laura Lee and John Ginn, Natasha White, Donald Lonnee, Pauline Levy, and Darlene Gaetz, all of whom made her hospital stay comfortable, and the many neighbors who are still ensuring that Doug is well fed.
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – A.A. Milne
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined. In honor of Linda and her love of all living creatures, we ask that donations be made to Hope for Wildlife https://www.hopeforwildlife.ne .
