To Delores ‘Family, I was very saddened to learn of Delores passing . She was a very special woman to me . She was my nursing instructor at the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing from 1976-78. We remained friends and even attended our wedding . I reconnected in the last few years . We stayed with her at her Airbnb as well as she visited us at our home in Kentville along with Angel . We did some cycling together. I am so sorry for your loss. We was a remarkable woman , and will forever hold a very special place in my heart . Thinking of you all at this very sad time .

Dolores joined Halifax Ground Search and Rescue, when it was then known as Waverley Ground Search and Rescue. The daughter of a sea captain, she could certainly use a compass, but also knew all the constellations and could navigate by the stars alone. As a registered nurse, her talents were quickly realized. She became a Team Leader on searches and eventually an instructor working on some of the first training manuals developed for the team.
On one occasion, Dolores led the search for an Alzheimer’s patient who had been missing for two days in the backwoods of Halifax. In the wee hours of the morning, her team found the gentleman, weak but still alive, stabilized him, gave coordinates for an extraction team, and participated in his successful return to civilization.
Dolores was an excellent example of all the best that served, and continues to serve Search and Rescue in Nova Scotia

Dolores was a new friend of mine that I met through my parents, Ron and Christine Mepham. They both became friends with Dolores through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She cared for both of them for a short time until my mother's untimely passing nearly 2 years ago. And then she bravely stepped in and helped to care for my father while we awaited placement for him in a home. She was a true angel. I wasn't aware that she had fallen ill. She was always so good at hiding any ailment of hers so that she might first tend to others. We had many late night conversations where I learned of her fascinating and enriching life! She was the initial inspiration for me to join Search and Rescue myself actually! My heart is truly saddened. Dolores, you left your mark and will not be forgotten. Thank you for all that you did for my parents. I've been enriched by knowing you for the short time I did. You were a gift!. My sincere condolences to her family.

I only met Dolores late in 2023, while giving service in our church Temple in Cole Harbour. I loved her from the first time that we served together. She was so friendly, kind, and with a twinkle in her eye, mischievous! I loved hearing of her worldwide experiences and we had such interesting conversations. My deepest condolences to her family.

My condolences to Dolores's family
Dolores had passion with everything she did, from encouraging people to go for a walk down to the beach,
Drawing panels in granny's garage or working happily in the garden muck in her rubber boots.
I'll always remember her for the care she took when she improved paths that I'd cut.
She'd mark them and cut them back nicely and sometimes she'd change the route if it didn't appeal to her.
She will be missed.

I just learned this week of Dolores' passing and then looked for the obituary online. I am so very sad to learn that she lost her battle with cancer. I did not know her well having met her less that ten years ago at the Halifax Temple in Colby Village but I felt instantly drawn to her. She was feisty yet spiritual at the same time. I wish I had known about the amazing life she had had so I could have asked her lots of questions and learned from her. My husband and I send our condolences to her family at this difficult time.

As Choral Director at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, I was thrilled to have Dolores as a member. Dolores had a lust for life! She inspired me to a better conductor because she was so inspired by me. She loved how I made her feel. I loved how she shared her joy of singing with her face! You could always look her way and come away smiling! Sing out, Dolores, we’re listening!! ❤️

I love you so much dear Auntie. You loved & cared for everything so deeply. You were always there to help & listen. Your heart was of one of a kind, and I will never meet anyone like you again in this life.
Right up to our final farewell, and you were facing the inevitable... you had the zest to learn new things, embrace new information, and take on new challenges. Everything meant so much more with your measured explanations and insights.
Thank you for all the history you have carried on, and the care of my Father. Thank you for all the times we shared. Thank you for spanking the breath of life into me. I know they welcomed you with a big lobster dinner :)
I love you forever <3
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

My heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and the wonderful friends.
Dolores was a dear friend, mentor that I have known for over 50 years. Her obituary sizes things up very well. I signed up the same time Dolores did for the Great Cycle Challenge and told her that she will be my ambassadors by spirit, as I take to the trails this August. Dolores was a great outdoor adventurer, teaching alongside her at the weekend modules for the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership program from woodsmanship skills to winter survival. She had such dedication and passion for the natural wonders. She also helped out with the Good Samaritan Purse, clearing the trees in Summerside PEI during one of the huge wind storms. She handled the power saw very well at 80 years old. Always had a great sense of humor and a tender heart.
She is now resting and is with her Savior. Peace and comfort to all. Carrie Ramsay-Wheadon
