Obituary of Gary Stuart Carty

Gary Stuart Carty, 73 of Gullivers Cove, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 in the Halifax Infirmary. Born September 5, 1950 in Digby, Gary was the son of the late, Stuart and Margaret (Theriault) Carty.

 

Gary was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He had a passion for socializing at Tim’s with his dear friends and drinking his tea. He loved sporting around with his 1986 Black Stepside Chevy and taking his Rug Rat and Scottie Boy for doughnuts.

 

Gary relished in his time running long-haul trucking, enjoying every minute. His trucking career started with his brother, Emerson Carty and Casey Fisheries, owned by Mike Casey. Gary’s love for trucking took off and lasted for years, spanning over numerous companies. Gary’s love for driving continued until just a few weeks before his passing with Tyler Handspiker, a young man Gary had the pleasure in watching him grow into the young man he is today with his own trucking company.

 

Gary will be lovingly remembered by his adouring wife, Judy (Peters); children: Lisa (Peter) Burnie, Shelley (Jason) Farstad; Brandon (Valerie) Carty; loving grandchildren: Justin Carty, Jarred (Rebekah) Lowe & Breagh Carty; great-grandchildren: Scottie Boy and Cohen “Rug Rat” Carty & Theodore Lowe; step-grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Morehouse, Rebbeca (Matthew) Robicheau, & Laura (Jason) Melanson;  step-great-grandchildren: Hannah & Georgia Robicheau, Lala Potter, Sarah Morehouse, MacKenzie, Scarlett, & Bentley Melanson, brothers, Darren “Wild Dog” (DeeDee) Carty & Rodger; estranged sisters: Maxine and Donna;  Judy’s siblings, Barry (Susan) Peters, Evelyn (Mike) Cochran, and Jean (Sean) Brown. And many special nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his birth parents, Gary was predeceased by his aunt, Effie Carty (who raised him from an early age); special parents, Harvey and Dolly Peters; brother, Emerson Carty & sister, Carol Addington.

 

“We would like to give special mention to the wonderful family and friends we are so fortunate to have by our side in our time of need. We are so grateful for the people that have travelled many miles, provided food, calls, and messages. It did not go unnoticed. We would also like to send a huge thank you to Kenny Fisher, Josh Taylor, Shelley Pyne, Leona Mosher, Waylon Mosher, Stephanie Robicheau, as well as so many more.”

 

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Digby County Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to: IWK. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
