Sylvia Smith

Obituary of Sylvia Ann Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, at the age of 79, of Windsor, on Monday September 2, 2024 in Hants Community Hospital.  Born November 25, 1944, in Wolfville to the late Ronald and Greta (Smith) Walsh.

After high school she took her business course at Kay Anslow School of Business and began working at the Department of Lands and Forest until she started her family.  Sylvia was a stay at home mom and was very busy raising three boys.   Sylvia’s caring and compassionate nature led her to take a CAA course at the age of 53, she graduated with a 90% average.  Her goal in life was to help the less fortunate.  She would bake for community fund raising events, help friends and family that were in the hospital with their personal care.

Sylvia was known for her love of adventure.  She and Bill drove across Canada and back.  She travelled to Florida a few times to visit with her friends.  She enjoyed camping, dancing, going to community jams.  During the spring and summer time you would find her attending to her flower and vegetable gardens.  She was an amazing baker, and her famous banana cake was the grandchildren’s favorite.

Sylvia is survived by her children Greg (Sherry) and Jason (Michelle): grandchildren Austin, Kyle, Nathan, Michael and Michelle; great grandchildren Leo, Grace, and Carly; brother Grant (Rose Marie), sister Cheryl(Harley) Rhodes and several niece and nephews and their families.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Ron and Greta; her former husband James Smith, and partner William Gamble and her son Andrew (Marlene).

We would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Hants Community Hospital in the Emerge and Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hantsport Baptist Church on September 23, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.  A private burial will be held at the Centre Falmouth Cemetery for the family only at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hants Community Hospital Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
