Obituary of Audrey Marlene Hazelwood
Audrey “Marlene” Hazelwood, 87 of Somerset passed away peacefully on Friday August 30, 2024 in the Valley Regional Hospital, with her family by her side. Born in Noel, Hants County, Marlene was the daughter of the late Wyman and Pearl White.
Marlene’s greatest treasure was her family, she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and the many pictures of her new great grand daughter, Francesca
Marlene occupied her time watching a favorite soap opera, a good card game, mowing on her lawn tractor, cryptogram puzzles and visits with friends. She retired from the Grand View Manor in 1996 after 25 years of service.
“Mum said a few days before she passed, “I’ve had a good life” and that’s all one can ask for.”
Marlene is survived by her daughter Vicki; son Wendall (Margaret Rand); grandchildren Malcolm (Dany Delgado) and their daughter Francesca of Vancouver, BC and Sebastian (Greg Taylor) of Lower Sackville; brother Denny (Shirley) White of Dartmouth; sisters in law Jeanne Ibsen of Scarborough, Ont and Enide Holmes of Bedford as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was predeceased by her beloved husband Beverly Hazelwood; sisters Clare Harvey, Maggie Robarts, Clara Harvey and Eileen Ettinger; sister in law Reta Whitman; brother in law Armand and wife, Leora Hazelwood.
The family of Marlene would like to give thanks to Dr. J Puetz, Dr G MacDonald, Dr. E Suiter, Dr. M Keough and the many nurses who took such good care of mum during her final stay.
A very special thank you to friend and neighbor, Madge Morse and family for the very heartfelt gesture of flying their flag at half mast after mums passing. Thank you to special friends and neighbors, Richard Turner who took care of the lawns and the pets when we were not able to; and Melanie Hirtle who frequently surprized mom with her unique meals (the spaghetti was mom's favourite).
Cremation has taken place, no funeral service by request. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Berwick Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marlene to the Canadian Diabetic Association, The Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or a Charity of your choice.
