Obituary of Linda Deanna Bowlby

I was born September 24, 1942 to Thomas M Tupper and Ella L Joudrey in Lake George, Kings County Nova Scotia. I was #10 in a family of 14. I am predeceased by seven brothers: Allison M., Arthur L., Mylon C., Lawrence F., Freddie C., Roger V., and John and am predeceased by four sisters: Baby Girl, Marjorie G., Ruth O., and Joan R. I am survived by two sisters; Marilyn Wilson and Gail White, four sisters-in-law, Janet Tupper, Kathlene Tupper, Eileen Bowlby and Margaret Tupper, and one brother-in-law Dale Thomas. I am survived by my husband of 64 years, David R. Bowlby of Aylesford.

When I was ten years old, I had the job of janitor of my one room school; making fires, sweeping floors and bringing in water for the cooler. I later spent two winters with my sister Marjorie and her girls, doing chores and going to Lake Paul School until spring while her husband worked in the lumber camp.

I lived with sister Ruth and her two girls for three years as her husband was at sea.

I attended West Kings High School where I was in the Glee Club, President of Junior Student Council and a member of the Red Cross Group.

I took a hairdressing course at Pattersons Beauty Salon in Kentville and worked there until I got married in 1960 to David R. Bowlby. I moved to the farm, the first real home I ever had. I lived there for 43 years. During those years I helped with outside chores; with the haying, growing a vegetable garden and loving every minute of it. Repairing and decorating our home to make it welcoming and warm to our many visitors - all holiday dinners were shared there. 

I was a member of Dempsey Corner Women’s Institute, Past President and Secretary. I enjoyed those meetings and learned so many helpful things.

I was also a member of the Aylesford District Lionettes Group, Past President and Secretary, attended conventions and met many wonderful people.

I am a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and was on the board of Christian Education, assisted with CGIT and Sunday School. I was also a member of the Aylesford-Auburn Cancer Society and Red Cross. I joined the Nicholsville Rug Hookers Group. In the meantime, I raised four beautiful children: Terri Dawn (Peter), Heather Ann, David Lee (Allison) and Lisa Diane (Jeff). I have five wonderful grandchildren: Mathew Little (Mari), Connor Bowlby (Leanne), Devon Bowlby, Lindsey Morgan (Taylor), and Justin Morgan. I also have four great grandchildren: Morgen, MacKenzie and Madden Little and Summer Gibson. 

One of my most enjoyable pastimes has been quilting. I learned this from my two grandmothers and a special aunt. My creations have travelled to Japan, Scotland, Australia, British Columbia, Cape Cod, Virginia, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island. My children have received many of my creations as gifts also. 

I have always tried to be helpful to anyone in need. I have appreciated my friends and family; they have given me so much love and care.

When I come back in my next life, watch for me along the river banks, sitting with my fishing line in the water and my Harley Davidson parked nearby.
