Obituary of Richard George Purdy

Richard George Purdy of Bridgewater passed away peacefully at the South Shore Regional Hospital with his wife Brenda and his best friend Wayne at his side.

Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle and a true friend. He had a passion for socializing at Tim's with his dear friends keeping them entertained with his stories. Richard was a long haul trucker for 45 years working for numerous companies. His love for driving led to many Sunday drives with his wife Brenda as navigator exploring the backroads of Nova Scotia. Richard often said you do not have to leave Nova Scotia to see the prettiest scenery.

Richard enjoyed fixing cars in his retirement. He was a world class bodyman and backyard mechanic always willing to help anyone he could. He would lift the engine out with his bare arms, no mechanical lift necessary. To say he was strong was an understatement. Whenever the family got together there was bound to be a sing along. Out would come the guitars and the singing would start. He loved spending time with his family and adding his voice to the group.

Richard will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all that were blessed with knowing him.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Mary Nora Purdy (Mombourquett), and Arthur Luman Purdy of Goodwood, Prospect Road.

Richard is survived by his children Ross, Caroline, Stephanie, Nathan, and Simon. His grandchildren Abby, Emily, Donovan, and Desiree. His brothers Walter, Paul, David, Eddy, Frank, Robert, Gordon, and Lou (Bruck). As well as his sisters Barbara and Norma. Many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home , Halifax. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
