Dear Ann:
We just returned from Ontario, attending the wedding of our first granddaughter. We take this opportunity, a sad one, to offer you, your family & friends our sympathy & condolences on the passing of a truly great guy.
At NSEIT, where you & I taught, keeping an eye out for new verbs, I had the pleasure to speak with & get to know Bucky. Everything said about him in his official obituary is true & I second that with sadness.
Always the gentleman & the gentle man, he was easy to like, & I did so.
Our last meeting was at the Bonnie Prince, where Joan & I, DanWillie & Nancy had a pleasant visit with you & Bucky.
He will be in my memories of CBU.
Sincerely,
Buzzy

Dear Ann and family
I am very sorry for your loss and I wish to extend my sincerest condolences. I have the fondest memories of Bucky from the track and Buster's barn where we would often solve the world's problems. Further, he wouldn't miss a Thursday night at the track and would methodically keep track of who won what race. He was a man of great integrity.
Best regards,
The Harvey family

Had the opportunity to play for Dr Carl at CBU in 1986 Cape Breton University. He was such a class act. He was an excellent coach, mentor, teacher and friend. I was able to share the impact he had on my early years last year when we connected during the pandemic. He was always a big supporter of all his students. He helped us believe in our abilities. He has shaped in so many ways who I am as a coach, teacher, mentor. May he rest in peace. Condolences to his family.

My condolences on the loss of Bucky. I have the fondest memories of watching the Capers in action with Bucky behind the bench. More than often Bucky engaging with the referee was much more entertaining than the hockey.
Regards,
Brian

Dear Ann and Family,
I am saddened to hear of Bucky's death. Many memories passed my mind as I was at UCCB in those days with Bucky.
I remember him as a leader who elicited trust in the students he mentored. He was a friend with whom it was always a delight to have a conversation. We had several encounters the past few years and were able to pick up where we left off.
My sympathies and condolences, care and concern, friendship and prayer for you all including for Bucky.
Ann: we never did have that home-made-bean supper!
God bless
Fraternally,
Bedford

Dear Buchanan Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I leave this condolences message. I have such great memories of Coach and the teams that I had the honor and privilege of being part of. The definition of a Coach is a person who understand people's strengths, weaknesses, and continuously motivate those they work with. Coach Dr. Carl “Bucky” Buchanan possessed all that and more.
In life and sports, you go through seasons that have a finite period and the one constant in change. The one attribute I admired most about coach is he never changed regarding his approach toward people and sports. He was everything you hear about him and more. I often ask myself how I can repay the coach for all he did for me. I realized many years ago that the best way to repay such a debt is to pay it forward and be a good humanitarian, like he was!
I extend my sincere gratitude to the Buchanan family for sharing Coach with me and many others.
God bless you all at this time of loss and always.

Ann and family,
Alana and I would like to pass on our condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of playing for Bucky for two years; first year with StFX Sydney Xmen, and the second year as a CCB Caper. Bucky was a class act and he treated every player with respect. He instilled in us the value of hard work and team effort and he made sure we had fun. We weren’t just hockey players, we were young men and he truly cared about each one of us. I am happy that I knew Bucky as a person and as a coach/administrator. He was a very positive influence in my life.

Ann, Kim, Susan, Allison, Mary Ellen,
I am so sorry to hear of Coach’s passing. I am forever grateful for the impact Coach had on me. I was reluctant to move to Sydney and play for the Capers but he convinced me otherwise and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Those 5 years were amazing. I made lifelong friendships and for that I am very thankful. Coach’s accomplishments speak for themselves and the amount of people he impacted is immeasurable.
Hopefully all of the great memories you have of him will help you through this difficult time.
I am so sorry that I cannot be there on Saturday but I am travelling in Europe this week.
Thinking of you all at this time.

I’m deeply saddened by Bucky’s passing. My sincere condolences to Ann,Kim,Sue, Mary Ellen, Allison and Bucky’s extended family. Bucky was one of the most influential persons in my life. I learned so much from him, he was so kind and thoughtful and his impact on me in the field of athletics is immeasurable. I also learned so many life lessons from him. Bucky’s accomplishments have been well documented, I prefer to remember him as the diminutive dynamo who landed in Cape Breton and changed the lives of myself and thousands of Cape Bretoners. Rest in Peace, Bucky.
