William Munroe

Obituary of William Robert Munroe

William Robert Munroe- 90, of Coldbrook (formally of Wallbrook), died peacefully on September 23rd, 2024, at the Valley Hospice Unit in Kentville, surrounded by his family. Born in Scots Bay, Kings County, on June 13th, 1934; he was the youngest son of the late Cleveland and Abigail (Rogers) Munroe.

William (aka “Bill”, Wid”) worked in Northern Ontario as a young man until his father became ill; he then came home and took over the family farm in Wallbrook. William farmed for over 40 yrs until arthritis in his hip forced him to sell; it was a very hard decision, but he realized he couldn’t continue to keep the farm up the way he wanted to. William’s farm is now owned by Pete Luckett however he got great pleasure seeing how the farm has been developed and is now being enjoyed by so many. The property looks very different today but the stunning view overlooking the valley and Blomidon remains the same. Life on the farm years ago holds many great memories for family and friends as it did for William. Farming was his life and even after selling and moving to Coldbrook he planted fruit and vegetables on every spare piece of land he had, you could say farming was part of his DNA. William had been called many things like frugal, stubborn, stoic, private, and set in his ways, but under all that as his health declined, he never complained and took life as it came “he did it his way” right to the end. William will be missed.

William is survived by his children, Lawson (Sandra); Terry (Connie), both of Melanson, and daughter Debbie (Mark) Mander, of Coldbrook; his 5 grandchildren , Chad (Heather) Munroe, Mount Denson;  Natasha (Kevin) Munroe, Mount Uniacke;  Ashley (Phillip) Munroe, Coldbrook;  Kailey (John) Munn, Stillwater Lake, and Evan Mander of Kentville;  and his 5 great grandchildren,  Chantel (Brandon), Lauryn, Nickolas, Austin, Lucas, and Eloise.

In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by all 8 siblings; four brothers Austin, Beverly, Keith, Malcolm and four sisters Belma Coldwell, Rena Cook, Madeline Banks, Corabelle Dickson.

The family would like to thank the Valley Hospice team for the outstanding care they provided to dad, and compassionate support to the family.

There will be no visitation.
