Obituary of Rebecca Ann Backman
Backman, Rebecca Ann, “Becky" passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2024, at SSRH after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 24, 1954, in Lunenburg Co, NS. Raised in Chester Basin, Becky was the daughter of the late Philip and Fay (Meister) Backman. Becky’s travels took her across Canada, where she resided, for many years, in BC before returning home to Nova Scotia, settling in the Forties near New Ross.
Becky was a free spirit. Her outgoing, kind-hearted, and spunky personality filled her life with many friends and acquaintances. Despite facing many of life’s challenges, she never wavered from accepting and showing great compassion and acceptance for others; she often stated, “I never hold a grudge."
Becky had many interests, hobbies, and talents. She was artistic, creative, and resourceful! Loved making and selling jewelry and drawing.
Becky adored animals and especially being "mommy" to her beloved cat Roxanne. Becky spent time working on a farm where she could be near horses. One of her passions was her turquoise Harley Davidson motorcycle. She loved the feeling of the open road, feeling free, and the camaraderie she found within the biker community, motorcycle events and rallies. Becky adored live music and often donned the dance floor with tambourine in hand! She loved thrifting, acquiring quite the collection of jeans and boots! Food, oh how Becky loved to eat, especially Chinese food! She often joked about having a hollow leg!
Becky found great comfort in her spirituality, collecting gemstones, and relied on her pendulum for daily guidance. With her pendulum and emotion code, she often thought of helping others by using it. Becky truly lived life to the fullest! She will be dearly missed by all who knew her!
Becky is survived by her biological son James (Michelle) Fralic, Bridgewater NS, as well as several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Many thanks to the caring staff of the 4th floor medical unit, South Shore Regional Hospital. Also, extending gratitude to friends Tammy Robar, Rhonda Walker, and Wayne Bowlby, who rallied in support of Becky, showering her with kindness and comfort as she journeyed throughout her illness.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life to be held in the springtime and will be announced at a later date. Memorial Donations can be made to The New Ross Fire Department or The Lung Association of Nova Scotia & PEI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
