PAGE (CHISHOLM) BENT, Deborah Jean - 42, Berwick, Kings Co., peacefully passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a fierce battle with gastric cancer. Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter and youngest child of Christena (Rankin) and the late Frederick Hugh Chisholm. She was raised in Middleton, Annapolis Co., and later settled in Berwick. She worked for Remax Banner Real Estate, Waterbury Newton Law Firm, Select Money Strategies and most recently for the N.S. Department of Justice in Kentville. She served as an Intake Officer for Family Court for the last six years and recently was successful in obtaining a J04 Program Administrator Officer posting. Debbie was genuinely interested in every person she met and loved to learn a person?¢s story. She was a strong woman, a wonderful mother, and a lifelong friend to those drawn into her circle. Her children were the center of her world and she took pride in providing & sharing with them a broad range of cultural and life experiences. Debbie lived life fully and without regret, finding joy in everyday things. She loved the outdoors, bird watching (especially geese), camping and kayaking. She had a ready smile, a giving spirit and a love of great shoes. She was deeply proud of the Annapolis Valley and loved sharing its gems with friends from far and wide. Deborah was active in her community, always ready to pitch in and lend a hand. She served as secretary for both the Berwick Gala Days and the Berwick and District Fire Department Auxiliary. She was the Vice President of the Berwick School Band Parents Association, a 4H leader, and an annual participant in the Canadian Cancer Society?¢s Relay for Life. While battling cancer, she inspired and actively participated in the first - Bust a Gut쳌 fundraiser for gastric cancer, which she hoped would become an annual Valley event.
