THOMPSON, Capt. David Harold - Dave (Ret?¢d) - 68, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away suddenly on Friday, October 8, 2010, at home. Born in Windsor, Hants Co., he was a son of the late David Reid and Eva Pearl (Pemberton) Thompson. David was a member of the first graduating class of the original Horton and District High School, and was still an active participant of the school reunions. He was a member of the Berwick United Church. David began his working career in the RCAF, having postings in Greenwood, N.S., Comox, B.C., California and England. He retired from the Canadian Armed forces in 1991 with the rank of Captain. David joined the 507 F/L McLean Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron soon after retiring from the Air Element of the Canadian Armed ForcesÃ?àas a navigator.Ã?àDuring his 15 years with the Squadron heÃ?àheld the positions of Administration Officer, Supply OfficerÃ?àand Deputy Commanding Officer.Ã?àDavid skillfully coached the Male and Female Cadet Biathlon teams, attending the National Championships five times.Ã?àServing more than 42 years of combinedÃ?àservice with the Regular and Reserve forces he finally retired from the CIC element of the reserves.Ã?àÃ?àSoon after, David took on the role of the Nova Scotia Air Cadet League Representative for the 507 Air CadetÃ?àSquadron, a position he held for the last two years. He was a member and past master of Valley Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M., Berwick, holding many other offices through the years including secretary and was treasurer at the time of his death. David was also active in the third degree drama team, serving coffee at the monthly breakfasts, had co-chaired the lodge siding project committee and was a member of the J. N. Chute Crippled Children?¢s Fund. He was also a Past District Deputy Grand Master, Past District Grand Director of Ceremonies and was very involved in Lodge Education and the District Advisory Meetings for Kings District. David was also a member of several other Masonic bodies including, being the High PriestÃ?àof Cornwallis Chapter # 26 in Kentville of the Royal Arch Masons of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island,Ã?àtheÃ?àtreasurer and member of Adoniram CouncilÃ?à# 10Ã?àRoyal & Select Masters, Wolfville, and member of the Moran J.A.Ã?àWagner Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners,Ã?àDartmouth, the Nova Scotia Conclave # 6 of the Order of the Secret Monitor, Windsor,Ã?àPhilae Shriners, Halifax, Western Valley Shrine Club,Ã?àNeptune Chapter # 71 of the Universal Craftsman Council of Engineers, Dartmouth,Ã?àas well as Mount Zion Preceptory No. 73, Knights Templar, Kentville. He was a also a member of the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders and a former member of both the Aylesford & District and Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Departments. David had also been a Justice of the Peace and a Commissioner of Oaths for the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and had a real passion in officiating at many weddings over the years. He was an avid motor bike enthusiast and was a motor cycle instructor for the Canada Safety Council and was a member of the Apple Valley Riders. David was an avid skier at Ski Martock, was a biathlon ski instructor and was a member of several local coffee clubs. Surviving are his wife, L. Elizabeth - Bettyì³ (Harrison) Thompson, Berwick; daughters, Beth Thompson, Coldbrook; Rachel Thompson, currently on a pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago, Spain; Laura (Thompson) and Chris Terry, teaching overseas; granddaughters, Elena and Maya; brother, Gary (Glenda) Thompson, Musquodoboit Harbour; sisters, Marie MacFarlane, Hantsport; Faye (Rev. Douglas) Hergett, Wolfville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Dave will take place from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, October 16, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, from where a Masonic Service and Funeral Service will both be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 17. Reverend Linda Winton officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, at a later date. Family flowers only.
