PEARLE, Lorne Ivan - 72. On January 10, 2011 2nd Lt. Lorne Ivan Pearle, C.D. ( Ivan ), of Cornwallis Park Annapolis County, Nova Scotia passed away quietly at the Annapolis Wellness Centre after a long battle with several cancers. Born the 17th of November 1938 in Sheffield Mills, Kings County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Lorne E. Pearle and Elaine (Brewster) Pearle. His family moved to a farm in 1948 at Torbrook, Annapolis Co., and he lived there until joining the Army in 1958.
Ivan was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps for a number of years, Serving with N.A.T.O forces in Germany 1963-66, and two UN. Peace keeping missions, one in Egypt 1960-61 and one in Cyprus 1967, also several postings in Canada. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 122 Clementsport and a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps Association (Atlantic). After his retirement from the forces in 1971 he was employed by Twin Cities Dairy (body shop) in Middleton for 6 years, Ivan was also a member of the Melvern Square Cub movement, as well as a foster parent for a number of years in Nova Scotia as well as in Alberta. He moved to Alberta and was employed by Alpha Dairies ( Maintenance ) in Calgary for 10 yrs and then by Dairyland Foods (maintenance) in Burnaby, British Columbia for 10 yrs.
He took the officer training course in Penhold Alberta and was promoted to 2nd lieutenant with the Army Cadets where he was involved with establishing a Cadet Corps in Airdrie, Alberta and served as training officer. He retired and moved to Cornwallis Nova Scotia in 1997. He was an avid crib player and loved a good game of crib especially with his grand children.
He is survived by his wife Linda (nee Corbett), Pearle, also four children Nancy (Jerry) of Edmonton Alberta, grandchildren, Jennelle (Terry), Paul & Sean. Kelly (Barry) of Fort McMurray Alberta, grandchildren Kayne, & Jordan. Buddy (Cheryl) of Maple Creek, Sask. grandchildren Kyla (Rob) great grandchildren Destiny, Jaylynne and Arthur & Todd (Shalyn), great grandchildren Ava and Austin. Kimberly of Middleton Nova Scotia, grandchildren, Melissa, Chantelle, Dustan and Daniel.
Also survived by a sister Heather (Bob) Wilmot, and four brothers, James (Sandy), Wilmot, Keith (Bonnie), Port George, Ross (Ellen), Mount Uniacke, Delbert (Karen) Halifax, and numerous other family members.
A Legion Tribute followed by a memorial service will be held at the Clementsport Legion at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 13, 2011.
