SALSMAN, Blake Wilson - 86, Somerset, Kings Co., passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Somerset, he was a son of the late Joseph Franklyn and Mabel Rose (McDow) Salsman. Blake was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church. He began work in logging, later farming, carpentry and had been the school custodian in both Berwick and Somerset Elementary Schools for several years. Blake was an avid gardener, trapper, hunter, fisherman and was well known for his sauerkraut. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Lillian Love (Salsman) Salsman, Grand View Manor, Berwick; daughter, Valerie (Dave) Hazlett, Lockartville, Kings Co.; step-daughter, Betty Wright, Napanee, Ont.; step-son, William Harrison, Edmonton, Alta.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Jean), Coldbrook; Oliver (Phyllis), Morrisburg, Ont.; sisters, Doris (Leslie) Garnett, Margaretsville; Mary Dobson, Prescott, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Garfield, Ralph and Clifford; sisters, Edith Johnstone, Edna Crossman and Phyllis Avery. There will be no visitation. Funeral service for Blake will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
