BETHUNE, Barberie Ereaut - Do쳌 - 93, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011, in Orchard Villa, Berwick. Born in Tusket, Yarmouth Co., on February 7, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Roderick O. and Edith A. (Hallett) Bethune. Barberie started her working career in the local bank as the first female teller. She joined the Kings Mutual Insurance Company in 1946 as a stenographer and in 1948 was appointed Corporate Secretary serving until her retirement in 1979. Barberie was knowledgeable about the company and was an exceptional employee. She was a lover of animals and in particular horses and dogs and in her earlier years was an excellent horseback rider. Barberie was an avid gardener, wonderful cook and always enjoyed games of bridge and cribbage. Surviving are a brother, Dr. John E. (Margaret) Bethune, Washington State; nephews, Donald (Arlie) Bethune, Ontario; Brian (Mary Lou) Bethune, Berwick; John (Cheryl) Bethune; niece, Linnhe Ereaut Bethune, all of California; niece-in-law, Linda Bethune - Merriam, Berwick; a number of grand nephews and grand nieces; special cousin, Maureen McFetridge, Kentville. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Roderick (Marnie) Bethune; nephew, Paul Bethune. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service will held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, in the Berwick Cemetery, Main St., Berwick. Rev. Linda Winton officiating. No flowers by request, donations in her memory may be made to the Kings Co. S.P.C.A. or a charity of your choice. A special thank you is extended to Kara Colbourne and her staff at Orchard Villa for all the care and compassion shown to Barberie over the last five years.
