A message to Bea Amero: My condolences on the death of your son John. In 1967, I was an engineering student surveying for the Department of Highways, and that summer I was stationed in Digby and stayed at your rooming house on Queen Street. I have good memories of my time there with you and Fred, and I remember both John and Susan. Thank you for your kindness. Regards, Frank

Please accept our sincere condolences with the passing of your father. We met you briefly when were in Digby in the fall of 2005. Both of us worked at Pacific Forestry Centre and knew your father well. Johnchr(39)s humour wasnchr(39)t always politically correct but with us and all those he worked with at PFC he had a heart of gold. No matter how bad your day was John could put a smile of your face. I will never forget the first time we met. He was wandering down the hall constantly looking all around. Not knowing who he was I asked him what he was looking for and he replied "anything bust". When John retired things were never the same. Anyway, our thoughts are with you and your family.

I am so sad to hear that John passed away last week. John was one of the first people I met when I started working at the Pacific Forestry Centre in 1997. Up until his retirement John and I traded all sorts of jokes. Every day it was a pleasure to run into John and share a laugh or two. John was a bit of fresh air, albeit a little smoky breath, in a sometimes stuffy world of scientists and bureaucrats. His smile was infectious, the stories tall and entertaining. He was a living example of the Red Green character, not too handsome but pretty handy. A little rough around the edges but arenchr(39)t most diamonds? I missed him when he retired and moved east and now I will miss him even more.
Herechr(39)s a joke for John,
John appears before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates
St. Peter says, "John, have you done anything of particular merit to warrant entry to heaven?"
John thinks for awhile and then says,
"Well, there was this one time that I came across a pretty young lady being harassed by a gang of bikers.
I told them to leave her alone but they wouldnchr(39)t listen.
So I walked up to the biggest, scruffiest, dirtiest, most tattooed biker and smacked him to the ground.
Then I kicked over his bike, ripped out his nose ring, threw it to the ground and yelled,
BACK OFF, LEAVE HER ALONE, OR Ichr(39)LL KICK THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF ALL OF YOU!!!
St. Peter was impressed and asked, "When did this happen?"
John replied, "Couple of minutes ago"
So long John. Thanks for all the jokes, smiles and laughs.
Cheers,
Dave Hill

My name is Grace Sumampong. I knew your dad during his time here at the Pacific Forestry Centre... I hope you donchr(39)t mind me sending you this email. I am so sorry to hear about your dad passing. I remember him fondly as the person who always greets me in the hallway and would always stop by my office to see how I was doing. Whenever I had problems with anything technical in the lab, I always called on your dad for help. I often thought of him after his retirement, whether he still drove his motorcycle and how he was doing in Nova Scotia. He loved Digby and we talked about his home a lot. Please accept my condolences to you and your family.

I want to express my deepest condolences to you and your family, I am glad he was with you all instead of out here when it happened, he loved you all so much but I am sure you knew that because John always spoke highly of you.
I have so many memories of him, he was such a good friend to me, helped me out whenever he could, and didnchr(39)t expect anything in return. My parents and I made sure to invite him over to join us for Christmas & Thanksgiving dinners so he wouldnchr(39)t be alone. I could go on & on about this wonderful man with the gruff exterior...who had a heart of gold.
You are in my prayers.
