Thinking of you at this sad time and remembering the time we spent with Donald when he stayed with us in England. Death is not the extinguishing of the light. It is the putting out of the candle because the day has dawned. Our thoughts are with you. Ann and Roger (Gwynchr(39)s sister)

Dear Jackie, Alex, Andre, and Louise and Ed:
I am really saddened to hear that Donald has died. He was such a good, kind and interesting man. Noone could have known Donald without being enriched by the wealth of information he shared and the generosity of spirit with which he shared it.
My heart goes out to all of you at this really painful time. Much love, Bonnie

Dear Jacquie,
I was so sorry to read in the paper about your husbandchr(39)s. I did not know Donald, but am told he was a very brilliant man. 63 seems so young. You will miss him terribly.
I miss seeing you at church functions, but reading the paper you had a new church home in Halifax. I know that your strong faith will see you through and give you the strength and courage to face the loneliness.
My thoughts and prayers go with you.
Sincerely,
Marlene Jackson

I hope that as time passes his loss may be a bit easier to bear as your memories of your time together replace some of the sadness.

Dear Jacquie,
How sad to lose your companion and husband of 38 years. Don was a creative, interesting person. I remember many conversations with him during cruises when he was throwing punchcards overboard to detect windrows. How fortunate that you had so many good years together. I will be thinking about you both on Saturday. Warmest regards, Janet (Ottawa)

Our sincere sympathy on your sad loss. Donald (Donnie, when I knew him) and I (Linda) were in the same class in school from grade II through grade XI. Donald was a "brain" from the start. In those days it was OK to be smart, so despite his intelligence, was not shunned, as sometimes happens today, but was looked up to by the others in our class. He always knew the answers and got by without doing his homework, which was a bit annoying. He could always come up with the right answer on the spot. Once in grade X or XI, Mrs. Cogswell, our German teacher, went desk to desk correcting homework. When she got to Donald, he had nothing to show her and couldnchr(39)t come up with a good story, why it wasnchr(39)t done. I donchr(39)t think there was any punishment, but I remember the rest of the class were quite elated that Donald had gotten "caught" for once. We had a fairly small class, and because it was a small school the same kids (if they passed) were together year after year. It bonded the whole bunch of us. I also remember the year that we were going into grade V, Donald was doing some experimenting heating tar (I believe) over by the bay and it exploded burning him severely on the neck and chest. We were all really worried about him, and it was several months before he got back to school. Donald was an unforgettable person and although I have only seen him once or twice (I think when Louise was born at the WKM Hospital,) I often think about him and the rest of our class. Although there were a bunch of smart, competitive kids in our grade everyone knew it was no good to try to be at the top of the class, Donald had that one all sewn up. The best one could hope for was to come second, for Donald was really in a class of his own. Bless you all as you go through this very sad time.
