Obituary of Donald Scott Bezanson

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BEZANSON, Donald Scott - 63, of Halifax died from heart failure on Saturday July 7, 2012. Born in Berwick, NS on April 25, 1949 he was the son of the late Murray and Joan (Scott) Bezanson, former publishers of the Berwick Register. Donald is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jacqueline de Mestral; daughter, Louise (Edward Sturgeon), Vancouver, BC; sons, Alexandre, Harbourville, NS; Andre, Halifax, NS; sisters, Margaret Bezanson, Toronto, ON; Mary (Mark) McIsaac, Harbourville, NS. Donald grew up in the Annapolis Valley and took a degree in Physics at Acadia University. He was grateful to have been there at a time when students were encouraged and given the facilities to make their own instrumentation. His interest in design, machining, and wood working stayed with him throughout his life. He obtained a Masters in Physical Oceanography at Dalhousie and worked for a time at the Bedford Institute. He then returned to the North Mountain (Bay of Fundy) and, while building a house off the grid for his growing family, started Maritime Scientific Services. He invented, and patented, a device to characterize microscopic particles in fluids, and sold one unit to a laboratory in France. However, after a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to commercial the device , he retrained himself in data analysis and spent ten years doing contract IT work in the US. During this time the family joined him for a few interesting years in Mississippi, then returned to live in Halifax. The travel and separation from family wore on him and his health suffered. In 2009 he returned to be with his family in Halifax. Here he set up both an electronic and machining shop. Donald's children, who stayed at his side during his final days, were a great blessing and source of inspiration to him. His children feel blessed to have benefited from his unique perspective on life and his knowledge and skills. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday July 13, 2012 at the Round Church, St. George?¢s Anglican, 2222 Brunswick St., Halifax, NS, B3K 2Z3. The funeral service will be held July 14 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev?¢d James Purchase officiating, , followed by a reception in the church hall. Donald and Jacqueline are profoundly grateful to have found their spiritual home at St George's. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to St. George?¢s YouthNet (an outreach program for children of the North End.) Burial of the ashes will be at the Harbourville Cemetery, Kings County, at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, NS B4P 1E7. On-line condolences may be sent by visiting: www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca.
