Obituary of Melda Jean Mitchell

Mitchell, Melda Jean – age 96 years of Orchard Court in Kentville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 25, 2013. Born in Rockland on December 29, 1916; she was the daughter of the late L. Gorham and Cynthia (McLannan) Freeman. Melda taught for many years, her Jr. students knew her as the teacher who “couldn’t be shocked”. She led a very active and creative life, was an avid poetry writer and loved to travel and visit her family. Left with fond and loving memories are her children Bruce (Charlotte) Mitchell of Drumheller, AB; Sharon Robertson (Peter) of Kentville, Joan Russell (Gilbert) of Chester Basin and Wendy Trueman (Roger) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Scott, Craig, Jason, Gillian, Mitchell, Patrick and Kelly; great granddaughter Martha and great grandson Ezra; also by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband V. Amos Mitchell in 1981; brothers William and Laurence; sisters Vera and Una. In keeping with Melda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held in August from the Lorneville United Church with Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating. Burial to take place in the Lorneville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Melda made to the CNIB foundation would be greatly appreciated by her family.
