A WELL KNOWN VALLEY BUSINESS MAN HAS PASSED AWAY Lutz, Boyd Laverne age 75 years of Kentville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 4, 2013 at the Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Berwick on November 18, 1937; he was the son of the late Brent and Evelyn (Arnold) Lutz. Boyd worked for Colgate Palmolive before finding his passion in the funeral service industry in 1959. He spent many years working as a licensed funeral director and embalmer and with H.C. Lindsay Funeral Homes and Ambulance Services having chapels in Kentville, Berwick, Wolfville and New Ross. He became business partner in 1970 and sole owner in 1983. There have been many NSCC Kingstec students enrolled in the funeral services program that have benefited from Boyd's positive, kind and generous nature, while providing practical training and experience to further their own careers in the funeral industry. The dedication and care shown to the families he served was truly genuine and in 2005 he semi retired from the business but remained active within the company. Boyd's greatest strength was his generosity and his ability to help others through difficult times. His caring and kind heart has touched many people in their time of need. Other than his career, Boyd was actively involved in supporting minor ball and hockey throughout Kings Co. In his younger years, Boyd was an outstanding and well known local Berwick hockey player, earning an invitation to the Montreal Junior Canadiens training camp. Later in life he followed his passions with affiliations to the Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques, Nova Scotia Voyageurs and the Halifax Citadels. He was co-founder of the Valley Summer Hockey School and owner of the Valley Select Senior Hockey Club. Boyd's varied interests also included minor baseball, scouting for the New York Mets, and in the early 1990's becoming co-owner of the Halifax Windjammers franchise of the World Basketball League.
