Carty, Marion Elizabeth, 90 of Medford, Kings Co. passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 in her home, surrounded by family. Born in Habitant, she was the daughter of the late Harry E & Scellia Anne (Sherman) Carty. Marion graduated from the Provincial Normal College in 1941 and taught school and was Principal in Scott??s Bay, Steam Mill, Upper Canard and Grand Pre. The next 31 years she taught in Middleton Regional High School where in 1969 the Year Book was dedicated to her. Marion was active in the Annapolis County Music Festivals and graduated with the First Class of the Atlantic Christian Training Centre. Her YPUC work was not only local but at Presbytery and Conference levels. She was a leader in 4H Garment Clubs, Cubs, CGIT and director of church camps at Sherbrooke Lake, Chance Harbor and Elm Tree, New Brunswick. She was secretary to the Western Nova Scotia YPUC group which held summer camps at Berwick Camp Meeting Grounds. Later she was secretary to the Berwick Camp Meeting Association, assisted in church vacation school leadership and was also chairperson of the Local Arrangements Committee for many years. Marion was a life long member of the UCW and treasurer of Valley Presbyterial for 16 years. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport, where she was actively involved in Sunday School as teacher and superintendent, organist, choir director and church secretary. In 1999 Emmanuel Congregation dedicated a stained glass window in her honour. Marion was also a member of Medford UI and Glooscap Rebekah Lodge. Surviving her are brother, Reynolds (Maureen), Kingsport; sister-in-law, Carrie Carty, Meaford, Ont.; nieces, Patricia (Fred) Kennedy, Meaford, Ont.; Mariann Ward, Kentville; Donna Jackson, Medford; nephews, David (Wendy) Carty, Ont.; Timothy Carty (Anne Comeau), Meteghan; several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces & nephews; one great-great-great nephew; and care giver and very close friend, Della Deveau. She was predeceased by brothers, John (Jack); Clark (Bub) and Laurie in infancy; sister, Dollie Pauline in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Coldbrook. No visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, from the Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport. Rev. Wayne Mitton officiating. Private interment will take place in Jaw Bone Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmanuel United Church, Cancer Society or Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
