Ian Stuchbery - Age 81, Wolfville, NS. We announce with heavy hearts the peaceful death at Blomidon Court, Greenwich on June 2, 2015 of a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Born in Leytonstone, England in 1934, he was the son of the late Leslie Alfred and Jessie Eliza (Carlow) Stuchbery. Ian's early years were spent in the north-east part of London during WWII, moving to Potter Street in Essex after his family home was destroyed during an air raid. He earned Bachelor of Divinity at Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he met the love of his life Sylvia Doughty. They were married in 1959 and enjoyed a long, happy 55 year marriage. Ian was ordained as a Deacon in the Anglican Church in 1960,and subsequently as a priest in 1961. As a priest, he was a gifted leader, preacher, educator, pastor, spiritual director, liturgist, theologian and author. He served parishes in the Dioceses of: Chelmsford in England, Montreal, Rupertsland, Nova Scotia and PEI, and New Westminster in Canada - serving well beyond his retirement in 1999. He also served the National Church in numerous capacities, including 9 years serving with the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). Ian and Sylvia retired to Tryon, PEI where they enjoyed life with their dog, Dodie. In 2008 they moved to the Tideways Community in Wolfville, NS. In both places they were very active in the Church, in music and with their local community. Ian was a lifelong avid reader and music lover and was never more alive than when he was enjoying the company of family and friends. Ian ad Sylvia were known for their fabulous parties. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Sylvia (d. December, 2014), and survived by; daughter Alison (Paul) Lannan; sons, Michael (Tracy), Nicholas (Angela); grandchildren, Nicola (Franklin), Alexandra, Robert and Matthew Lannan; Benjamin, Jonathan and Emily Stuchbery; Spencer, Finn and Cooper Stuchbery. The memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3:00p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2014 at St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the PWRDF either directly or via St. John's, Wolfville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home and Chapels (Coldbrook), 902-679-2822.
