SERVICE, Colonel George Thomas, passed away successfully on August 30, 2015 at the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal in his 77 year. Born in Kapuskasing in 1938, George moved south and spent his youth in Thorold. He took an honors degree in Philosophy at Trinity College, Toronto, ON. Graduating in 1960 he joined the Canadian Army, The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (Cavalry) and served in two regiments: The Fort Garry Horse and 12e Régiment blindé du Canada (Commanding Officer, 1981-1983). He had commanded L'Ecole de Recrues des Forces Canadienes at St. Jean d'Iberville 1977-1980. His subsequent posts were Deputy Commandant Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, Canadian Representative to the Defence Review Committee NATO Headquarters, Brussels and Canadian Military Attaché Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, 1989-1993. On retirement he held two posts with the UN in Croatia and Kosovo. George moved with his wife Ursula to Annapolis Royal in 1995. He is survived by his beloved wife Ursula; his two daughters Andrea (Neil) and Christine (Simon), grandchildren Cliodhna, Meabh, Ingrid, Luke and Olivia; brother Dr. John Service and sister Marjorie Jutzi. Cremation has taken place, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Luke's Anglican Church, St. George Street, Annapolis Royal on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11a.m. Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan officiating.
