Obituary of Ellen Q. Fraser

Fraser, Ellen Quaade, 92, of Lockeport, Nova Scotia, was born on August 14, 1923 in Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1930 with her parents. She was the daughter of Lauritz and Vica Quaade. She grew up in Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia and went to Normal College for teachers between 1941 and 1942; she then moved to Cape Sable Island for her first teaching job and met her loving husband of 46 years, the late Lewis A. Fraser. They moved to Lockeport to teach in the late 1940's and made Lockeport their home. Ellen was a teacher from 1943- 1982. When she retired she took up her hobby of pottery on a more serious level, selling her craft at shows and in craft stores. She was a silversmith and painter as well. She served on the local School Board, and many other local committees. She loved to bowl and bowled in leagues in the area until she was well into her 70's. She played tennis in the summers until she was 80 and loved to go for walks on the beach and have coffee with her friends. Ellen passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on October 7, 2015 in Grand View Manor, Berwick, Nova Scotia. She is survived by her two daughters Vicki Fraser-Slipp (Bob Slipp) and Joyce Hipson (Tony Stewart); four grandchildren Laura Patterson (Lyle); Peter Slipp (MaryElle); Samantha Hipson (Cody) and Chris Hipson (Meagan); six great grandchildren, Nathan Roach, Caleb Roach, Alyviah Patterson, Ellen Patterson, Charlotte Patterson and Jacob Slipp; also has many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings; Christian, Vilhelm, Peter, and Inge. Ellen was a wonderful, thoughtful and kind person. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on November 21, 2015 at 2:00p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Lockeport.
