Obituary of Verna Joyce Pierce

Please share a memory of Verna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Verna Joyce Pierce, 95, of Wolfville, passed away peacefully at MarLane Lodge on November 18, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Milford and Myrtle (Brown) Pierce. Verna grew up in Grafton and then trained in PEI to be an RN. She worked a year at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital and then ventured to London, Ont. She was modest about serving as Second Lieutenant, No 15 Medical Company, RCAMC, in the Canadian Army. Her major interest was working with veterans. Most of her career was spent at Westminster Veterans Hospital and she aided in its transition to Parkwood Hospital when it took over the veterans' programs. Verna enjoyed travelling (local and abroad), reading, knitting, golfing, playing bridge and had a strong love of nature. She returned to Nova Scotia in 2008 and was the first resident of Kings Riverside Court, Kentville. Later she moved to Wickwire Place, Wolfville and then further health issues took her to MarLane Lodge, Wolfville. Special thanks to our angels, Marlene Atwell and Jim Wright, who provided excellent care and made Verna's last days comfortable. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law Phyllis (Paul) Turner, B.C. and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Verna was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret (Wilfred) Schurman, Helena (Roy) Porter and brother Milford Herman Pierce. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (902-679-2822). In keeping with Verna's wishes, cremation has already taken place and a private interment will be held in the spring in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Verna supported many causes and would appreciate memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
