Obituary of Alan Richard Young
Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful father and Grampy, Alan Richard Young (Big Al), 72 of Annapolis Royal, NS. Alan passed away on the 1st of February, 2017 at Mountain Lea Nursing Home in Bridgetown, NS.
Al was a proud member of the Annapolis Royal Fire Department and Royal Canadian Legion.
Al is survived by his loving daughters Michelle (Terry Saunders) of Bridgetown and Janice Young (Dave Kern) of Granville Centre, 5 grandsons Jordan, Cale and Brent Saunders of Bridgetown, Miller and Parker Robson of Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta; sister Sherry (Bob Morgan; Berwick, NS), and brothers Larry (Linda; Ontario) and Roger (Debbie; Alberta), and nieces and nephews.
Alan was predeceased by his loving parents Elsie (Veinot) and James Young.
Alan lived in Annapolis Royal, NS for the majority of his adult life, where he raised two daughters, owned and operated the Fort Anne Café for 40 years until his retirement in June of 2016, and a proud member of the community. Dad was kind, generous and loyal, loved his family and friends, was an honorary Uncle and Grampy to his café family, we were his world and gave him such joy. Dad always took the time to talk to everyone who came through the café doors, and if he didn't know you, he made sure he spoke to you and made you feel welcome. Alan's infectious laughter, quick wit and love of people will always be remembered and missed. Alan loved his job, cooking and creating that friendly place for people to enjoy and feel at home. This was Dad, pure and simple.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (902-679-2822). A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, February 17th, 2017 at the Annapolis Royal Fire Hall in Annapolis Royal, NS at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's name to the Annapolis Royal Fire Department.
