As a Volunteer at the Mahone Nursing Home, I have become very fond of Kay. She was a lovely woman, and I admired her intelligence, independence and spunk.
For about a year I read aloud to a group of Residents, and Kay always enjoyed that. In conversations at other times, she told me about some of her adventures earlier in life, and about how proud she was of the fine people her children had become. One of my tasks at the Home is taking Minutes for the Residents' Council meetings, and I was always happy when Kay could attend, because her comments always cut to the chase and showed understanding. For example, one time someone mentioned that the workers were slow to respond to the call bells. Kay spoke right up to say 'the girls' were very busy and couldn't get to everyone at once. Clearly her nursing experience gave her that understanding.
I had hoped to attend her funeral service, but am not able to. However, My I want to convey my sincere condolences to all of her family members.
