Obituary of Helen "Gerry" Geraldine Dunlop

After a long, happy life of 99 years, Helen Geraldine “Gerry” Dunlop bid goodbye at home in Kentville, Nova Scotia on August 17, 2019. She was the cherished mother of Margo (Ernest) Cadegan. She departed with peace and equanimity consistent with her lifetime motto of “What is to be, will be.”  Born July 11, 1920 in Walkerville, Ontario. Her parents were Nellie and Lear Lethbridge.

Gerry had a wonderful spirit and approach to life. She just got on with it and never gave up. She continued to live life into her final days including an outing for some clothes shopping and trip out for lunch at one of the local wineries for her birthday. Impeccably turned out every day, she was always positive and smiling, and helpful to others. She loved to play cards and was an avid bridge player up to almost her last day. Win or lose, cards were always great fun for her.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Alvin Alonzo Dunlop, her son James Robert Dunlop, granddaughter Catherine Roberts and her sister Mardell Slote. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A very special thanks to Ellen and Linda for the remarkable care and friendship they gave to Gerry over her final year.  Thanks to the staff and her friends at Kings Riverside Court, especially her “sisters” Rosalie and Anita, and to the attending medical team in her final days.

There will be no memorial service and burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Dover Center, Ontario. Memorial donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
