My uncle Gordon was my mentor. When he come to visit us on his summer trip home, he would bring book bags filled with books for us to read, pencils, pens, notebooks all of the tools for education. I still have several books from 1969 signed by my uncle that he gave to assist my education. My uncle was very talented and always had a positive disposition. He cared and with always be remembered as a mentor and good uncle. He lived for his faith in God and now he rests.

I can only guess why I Google'd Gordon's name today, for the first time ever. Mr Guptill was my Grade 1 teacher in High Level, and his enthusiasm for learning was infectious. He brought in additional material for me to study when I raced through the Grade 1 books. He encouraged my parents to buy a piano - a rather rare item in High Level in those days - as a way to challenge me. He had little choice but to teach piano at that point - I had no idea he was a church organist! His love for life, education, and his students was obvious even to a 6 year old. I can trace much of my success to those early experiences that Mr. Guptill inspired and nurtured. I am sure that there are hundreds of students like me who were better off being his student.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of knowing Gordon who was always polite and friendly. A memory I have of Gordon is this. My Mom, Ella Kennedy, had an appointment with Dr Smith in Hantsport. When we went into the waiting room. Mr Guptill was there..he and Mom chatted away. There were a number of people there. When Dr Smith called his next patient, who was Mr Guptil but Mr Guptill told whoever was next to go on in and he would wait. He did this and after Mom had seen Dr Smith we left. On our way to the car, Gordon asked if his Dad was okay because he had been in there for so long. I told Gordon that his Dad was letting everyone go ahead of him. Gordon chuckled and said that sounded like what his Dad do. Gordon was a lovely person..always polite and considerate of others. The world has lost a kind and gentle man.q28Y3

In the short period of time I had been blessed to know Gordon I must say he made me want to be a better person. I only new him during the time he spent at Valley Regional. Gordon’s passion and Love for the Lord was uplifting especially in some of his hardest days. He always had a smile and was so happy and appreciative for even the little things anyone would do for him. He was patiently awaiting the moment he would be embraced as he entered the heavenly gates and as sad as it was to hear of his passing I was so comforted knowing he was finally home. To Gordon’s family and friends he left behind may you find peace and comfort in each other and know the world was a better place because of those he ministered to along the way - he, I am certain, was the only Bible many children and adults ever read just through his kindness and compassion.

Mr. Guptill was my grade 8 English teacher at Sackville Composite High in the mid ‘60’s. Long time ago. I liked him as a teacher and as a person. He relished reading us excerpts from Shakespeare plays on Friday afternoons. Time goes by so fast; my condolences to his family.

Dear sweet, gentleman Gordon, you were one of the first people that I met when I came to Nova Scotia almost 18 years ago. I bought some sheet music for you that you had told me you realy would love to find, in return you carved a 3 foot shoe horn for me. I still have and use it often, I treasure it knowing it came from your heart. Until we meet again Gordon, I know you'll be treating everyone in Heaven to your lovely piano/organ music. My deepest condolences to your family and friends.

We send condolences to the family of a good, kind, and interesting man whom we knew when we spent a year in High Level. We met Gordon through his friendship with Terry & Brenda Mason. They were always such good friends. We recall many warm conversations and shared stories about our Nova Scotia homes. God rest his soul.

To the Guptill family, please accept my sincerest condolences on his passing. I attended Mack Business College 1958/59 and Gordon (Mr. Guptill at the time) taught me the math part of the course. He was always so pleasant to us and I enjoyed his class. The college was over the Kentville Advertiser Office where King's Arms is now. May God keep you all in His loving arms and bring you comfort. God Bless.
