My husband and I only recently came into congregation with Art. He was always smiling and looking for opportunity to comment. Last Memorial, dear Art dropped the emblems. He was using the plate to try and clean up. My heart ached for this man who dearly loved his God. So I went up and helped him clean up. I will always remember his eyes, confused as to who I was, but grateful for help. When we visited the nursing home, Art was always reading his Bible. Privileged to know him

To the family: I was privileged to be chairman for your father when he was 101& giving a talk at our Kingdom Hall. Two steps to the platform was much for him to traverse. I helped him up, he kindly in low said thank you appreciatively. When he concluded I helped down and whispered : "You will say prayer from your seat".The attendant was right at his side with the Microphone. I than told the congregation: "This was a spiritual and historic day. Brother Povah is a 101 yr. old student of the Bible. He will probably hold the age record this side of the new world".
I don't say this boastingly. I enjoyed our chats very much over the years.
When you mom was sick your dad stayed with brother George Parker in New Minas.

I did not know Art but it seems like I did. I live in Victoria and know his sister Joyce Little very well. She always spoke of Art. She was so proud of him.
He obviously was a very faithful servant of our God Jehovah. I look forward to meeting him in the new world and I know Joyce will make sure I meet him.
My condolences to all the family.

I'm sorry I never knew him personally, but I recognized him as a constant feature of all Assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses I'd been to. Truly a faithful Brother if ever there was one. Our sincere condolences to the family and our shared faith and hope that we will see him again in God's cleansed world.

To all the Povah family, we send you our love. Recently we were talking about Art and his amazing energy and joy. We still recall that even when Art was well over 90 years of age he was often the first one out of the car and at the door. He was such a zealous minister of the good news! It was hard to keep up with him. His warm smile and gentle way always greeted us at the door each time we came to visit the Digby Congregation. We look forward to seeing his smiling face again and finally meeting Lee. We send you our deepest sympathy. Love Chad & Krista Lea

There are few people in life I have had more respect for than for Art Povah. As an elder, a father, a grandfather and friend, he (and his beautiful wife Lee) set such a wonderful example of what being a Christian is all about. He had SUCH strong faith, he was serious about spiritual things, but was kind and tender and loved to laugh - just a beautifully balanced human being. He passed on such a rich spiritual heritage to you guys that relatively few enjoy. I loved that man, and I'll miss his smile, his wisdom and his love for people. I pray that his God Jehovah, will be with you all, and that the sure hope of seeing him in the resurrection of the righteous ones will comfort and sustain you until then.

Br. Povah was one of the first we met when we moved to Digby in 2010. He instantly made us feel like family. He loved our girls and they loved him. Brianne would call him Grandpa Povah... Ella couldn't talk yet.
His faith in Jehovah radiated from him and he was a true role model for us younger ones.
His smile and how he could run circles around us at 95yrs, is what we remember the most.
He is often spoken about in our home, with smiles on our faces and love and appreciation for how kind he was to us.
Until we meet AGAIN Grandpa Povah.

Our recollections of all the Povahs when we visited Digby in circuit work in the
early '80's are dear to us.....such warmth and hospitality from the entire family.
We're thrilled to learn of Art's pioneering in his later years. His teaching skills will
be put to use again soon! He lived a long life but the next one will be MUCH LONGER! We plan to listen to his memorial talk and will once again, be thinking of you all. For now, we send our compassionate affection, Garry and Janet

Things I remember about Dad. James Povah
Towards the end Dad began to call his house in Tideview his “congregation” and the nurses and care-givers “sisters.” When he did this one day I corrected him: “Dad, she’s not a sister.”His quick response: “Well, she should be!”
While at Tideview Dad often expressed his desire to have a Bible study. One day about 6 months ago a young male orderly walked into his room, someone I had never seen. Right away Dad asked: “Do you like to read the Bible?” “Yes,” he said. “Would you like to study the Bible with me?” “Yes!” Now that’s the direct approach!
Three days before his death, two nurses put him to bed for the last time. At this point Dad could no longer stand or speak so they used a hoist to lift him into bed. But he was trying to help and I overheard one nurse say: “Look at that! He’s still trying to help!” And the other said:”And he’s smiling!”
The nurse that was on duty the final day was Shelby. When Dad died she said to me: “We all loved your Dad!” And it’s true, I noticed that the nurses would often call him “sweetheart” and “dear” and “honey.”
About 2 years ago Dad gave his final 30 minute public talk. He still had a strong voice and was still able to give a well-reasoned expose of the scriptures. This was something that he really loved to do because many other avenues of service were no longer open to him. We timed it out beforehand and it came out to 23 minutes. I told Dad that was good because it often takes longer when we actually give it. However, unbeknownst to me, Dad decided to add extra information so that when he gave it at the Hall it turned out to be a 40 minute talk! It was his last! He did however continue to give Bible readings in the OCLM almost right up to the end, always with an amazingly strong voice and excellent sense stress!!
In the last year Dad would often complain that he could no longer do what he used to for Jehovah. I would tell him that he was witnessing by fine conduct. The night before he died, Nancy Graham, our spiritual sister who works at Tideview dropped by to say goodbye to Dad. She told me that she had heard many fine expressions from the staff at Tideview regarding Dad, because of his good-natured and appreciative ways. So, good conduct is often more powerful than words in bringing praise to Jehovah!
The Povah family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the staff and administration of Tideview Nursing Home. The care you gave Dad often went beyond the call of duty and can only be described as loving care. We want to mention you all by name:
Front Desk: Kellie and Jackie
Administration: Manager: Jessica, Director of Care: Darlene, Administrator: Debbie
Support Services: Penny, Cindy, Britney, Crystal, Janet
CCA (Personal Care): Gina, Meghan, Tracy, Courtenay C., Courtenay R, Hayley, Claudette, Sandra, Carol-Ann, Judy, Donna, Melanie, Brian, Tina, Trent, Gail
Nurses: Nadine, Rosie, Lisa D, Lisa T, Vickie, Heidi, Head Nurse Julie.
And especially those who were there at the end: Nurses Rebecca, Kiersten, and Shelby.
THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU!! WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL!!
