I met Mac and Loretta in 1976 while on a work trip to Jacksonville Christian Home in Florida. We corresponded for years and in 2005 I was finally able to come to Nova Scotia to visit them at Johnston Christian Park. The next year my husband, Bob and I came to Nova Scotia again and were hosted by Mac and Loretta in their home.
I have held them in my heart as close and special friends and cherish the times we shared. I am so sad to hear of Mac's passing. I send my condolences and love to Loretta and her family. I will never forget Mac.

Dear Mrs. MacDougall, Beth and family, M,y heartfelt condolences to you in this time of such loss of your dear one. As a youngster growing up in the Wyndholme Subdivision area ( Sinclair Street) I was fortunate to have a daily view of Lake Banook .Early one evening, just after the paddling day was done,I remember seeing a float plane landing on the lake! A very unusual sight to behold and something not often seen. In my mind it was like witnessing a large silver bird touching down on the still, calm surface and then just as gracefully returning back to the sky. To me this was such a beautiful and magical moment and a pleasant memory that has remained with me. I will never know if Mr. MacDougall was the pilot of that "silver bird". but after learning of his love of flying, I would like to think that it was his hands on the "tiller" of the plane that I saw on that late summer's evening so many years ago. My hope for today, and in the days to follow, is that you may find some comfort in the thought that Mr.MacDougall is once again gliding over the placid lake waters of Nova Scotia through clear skies supported and uplifted by the love of family and his angel wings. Take care of each other and may the strength of your faith and the love of family and friends bring you comfort. Sincerely, Marilee

Sincerest regrets on the loss of a true gentleman.
Malcolm was a genuine friend and a very loyal husband, father, brother, and son.
People like Malcolm do not come into our lives often, and for this reason we cherish having had the opportunity to know him. I use the word gentleman carefully because it seems to have lost meaning over the years. Malcolm was a fine gentleman who always put the care and welfare of others ahead of his own needs. He was gifted and intelligent.
Malcolms loyalty and devotion to his wife Loretta was the kind old romantic movies were made of. Sheer and utter as evidenced through his support, care and love for her.
Love and care were bountiful for his cherished children, also. It is for this reason that his wife and children were all there to support Malcolm to the hilt. And support him they did: to his final days like no other family could.
We already miss you my friend, yet, know you are in a better place where you are pain free and hopefully, playing the fiddle for the enjoyment of all those around you. I know Malcolm that you will continue to watch over your loving wife and children and you will remain forever in their hearts for all time.

Dear Mrs. MacDougall, Bruce and family, I was saddened to hear that your Husband and Dad, Mr. MacDougall ( or Mac, as he allowed me to address him as I grew older) passed away. I met Mac as a teenager in the late the 70’s at Babe Oxner’s Esso On Portland St ,that was at the tail end of actual “service Stations”. Mac was one of the loyal “regulars“ that would be in once or twice a week to fill up , wash the windshield ,check the oil and check the tire pressure while your at it ,kid! That was in the day you had to work for a living! They would run out of gas before they would buy gas at Texaco just up the street, in the city almost everyone had their favourite “station”. I always remember him as a big man and huge Chrysler ( I think) with a big gas tank! Those were very formative years and as I look back with fondness, I have no doubt a few life lessons were learned there. I am sure, without any doubt, we whether I knew it or not at the time, Mac gave me a lesson or two and passed a few life and business skills on to me . Not because He needed to or because he was older, wiser, smarter and wealthier than me , but because , he had a genuine care for me and he was interested in me. As time went on , I met the rest MacDougall clan and I became good friends with Bruce. Even though , to this day ,Bruce and I do not see each other as often as we would like, When we do we pick up where we left off and it is like we were never apart. That in itself is a testament as to the legacy Mac leaves behind, the quality of the family with Mac at the head. Rest assured he is in the arms of our Lord until we see him again. A good day that will be. Blessings to you all at this difficult time. Pat

Dear Loretta,
I was so sorry to hear of Mac's passing. I loved how Mac always had a warm smile and hug whenever and wherever you met him. He was so generous with both his time and talents. We were very fortunate to have him (and you) volunteer with "The Fiddleheads" at Glasgow Hall over many years. The group brought countless hours of musical entertainment to our residents and won a well deserved Service Excellence Award from Shannex. May you and your family find comfort in beautiful memories and knowing he rests in peace.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Malcom MacDougall. He was a very nice and humble brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. I grew up across the street, from the MacDougall's, and knew them well. Mac and Loretta were the best of friends, with my mother. They spent a lot of quality and loving time, with her, in her final time with us. Thank you so much for your unwavering kindness which will be greatly missed. I wish to send your family, our family's condolences in your time of grief.

Mr MacDougall was a sweet man. He was a kind neighbour for many years, followed by my first and only landlord! I now live next door to the place I rented from him and often joked that when I win the lotto, I would buy his place so I could tear down the 2 homes and build a huge place in this awesome spot!
I’m so sorry to hear if his passing. Love and prayers to his family xoxo

Loretta and family, We were truly sorry to hear of the passing of Mac, one of the original Murray Hill Drive family who was so friendly and helpful to us and our kids growing up here. So many times we'd chat if we passed by Mac tinkering away in his amazing workshop/garage. It was always a pleasure to hear Mac strike up the fiddle with Loretta on the keyboard. They showed the depth of their Christian love for their fellow Dartmouthers when they often played for the older and shut in residents. It has been an honour to know you both. Our prayers are offered for all the family.

Many fond memories of growing up in Dartmouth interacting frequently with Mac and Loretta who were long time friends with my Mom and Dad, Richard and Marie Neima. It seems Mac and Loretta were always around and partaking in many fun times with the old Halifax Flying Club gang. I will awlays remember Mac's outgoing and friendly personality and all the great lobster feeds at Porters Lake, the dances at the flying club hangar at Halifax International, and the fly-ins at Mill Lake in Hubbards. Our sincere condolences to Loretta and family. A great man who will be sorely missed. I know mom and dad were there to greet him at the gates. RIP Mac!

My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. MacDougall. Reading of his life offered a brief insight into his fascinating and very full life, blessed with an ever expanding loving family.
As a child, and playmate of Beth, I loved being inside their home and if I caught a fleeting glimpse of Mac he would acknowledge me with a slight nod and smile with his kind eyes. I was always curious to see him "tinkering" in the garage surrounded by tools and pieces of things, and the aromas and tastes of Loretta's baking enticed me to the kitchen.
Growing up on Murray Hill Drive gave "the gang" wonderful wholesome childhood experiences. As an adult I have taken numerous drives along the street noticing the grown trees, remembering the families who lived in all the houses. It was a wonderful safe place to grow up because of people like Mr. and Mrs. MacDougall.
On one of my Murray Hill 'drives', with my very young daughter in tow (about 24 yrs ago), I felt a pull towards #25, stopped and knocked. There was surprise of course for them to see me there. We were welcomed in for a visit and shown their addition and back garden, and a rare time I got to chat with Mac. It was a lovely visit and will remain a special memory of mine.
Your family photos brought tears to my eyes. Love Marilyn (Teasdale) Boyd

Our deepest condolences to The MacDougal family. My fondest memories of Mac are as a member of our church but particularly for me, a memory of his fiddle music. I recall playing a very beginner violin piece at a local community spot and Mac being so supportive of my effort, and then seeing him playing with a group at a local grocery outlet and seeing him again as he played for the church community and my fondest memory of music and Mac was me trying to play a guitar accompaniment to “River John Sunset waltz “ he said “ of course you can Carolyn” and being delighted to hear Mac play his fiddle with Loretta on piano. David and I send our heartfelt prayers to the MacDougall family.
