We have been so sorry to hear of Maurice's passing. He was such a great customer and friend to many of us at Home Hardware - always trying to help us improve our French and Spanish, bringing us treats occasionally, and just being so cheerful and kind to us all. We think of him often. We clearly remember the last time we saw him in the store in the Spring, and never imagined it would be the last time. "Au Revoir" dear friend.

Dearest Janet,
We go back such a long way. Our children were babies when we bought them up for a few years together in Canada. Christmas times of joy spent with both our Families and summer times swimming, so much fun. Our beloved Maurice and yourself are always in our hearts. We were so sad to hear that Maurice had passed and for you and the Family’s loss. It’s so lovely that you have your Family around you and friends to comfort you I am sure. We will hold you close in our Prayers in the days and months to come.
Our love as always

Dear Janet and family,
We just found out yesterday about Maurice’s illness and passing. How sad. You and he were always so welcoming to us,and we had a lot of fun together. He was most generous to us when he entertained us at the Pines for one of our significant wedding anniversaries. We still have a little pottery jar which he had made for us. We also have one of his inventions the knife sharpener, and it makes me smile every time I use it.
You and your mother were always most welcoming and fun for us.
Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
Love, Sandi and Pete.

Dear Family Thiebaut,
Our sincere condolences to Janet and the children
.We have very good memories of Maurice and his loving family, and we are very sad of his death.
We first met Maurice in Frankfurt at the Culinary Olympics, and In Jerusalem when he was a member of the Canadian Team for another Culinary Competition. Then we were your privileged guests at Digby, so many times we talk about the wonderful time we had at this occasion. Then along the years we met again at culinary salons or competitions in the Maritimes. It was always a great pleasure. Maurice was a good man, a true professionnel. He'll be missed by his family and friends.
We'll keep him in our best souvenirs.
May the time heals your lost.

Janet:
We were so saddened to read about Maurice’s passing.
My memories of Maurice will always be that smile on his face and mischievous twinkle in his eye.
I recall fondly, years ago a group of us going out at Mardi Gras in downtown Halifax. As always Maurice keep everyone entertained. He was dressed as Napoleon Bonaparte. A fitting character role which he maintained all evening.
It also makes me smile when I remember running into the two of you at a trade show in Toronto. Maurice was making a presentation to an audience, spied me in the crowd, and incorporated me into his presentation, without skipping a beat. He loved to poke fun.
Maurice was a gentleman who had a zest for life and will be missed by all who knew him.
Our deepest and sincere condolences to you and your family.

For every seed there is a season for beautiful blooms and I knew Maurice as the kind of soul that was always blooming in every season of life - - he was a glorious human being.
I adored his kind and generous character and for allowing me to share in his radiant glow of love, life and family. Be it as my friend, student, boss, mentor, leader, fellow entrepreneur; Maurice generously sprinkled joy and made the world, and me, better for all moments of time and experiences we had together.
My thanks to his family for including me in the final journey of life, death and celebration of Maurice's life. Please accept my condolences for the sorrow you carry in your hearts as your beloved husband and father took his last earthly breath. He will not be forgotten - not ever.
Take comfort in knowing that now we have an Angel who is with us always. Sincerely with love, Diane Axent

Our sincere condolences to Janet and al his family on his passing.
Maurice was one of those characters who you knew you would never forget from the first time you met him. He was a great supporter of Nova Scotia Tourism and his culinary talents were only exceeded by his irrepressible good humour and magnetism. Cooking demos at trade shows and the Nova Scotia Ideal Home Show were the perfect showcase for such a memorable showman. During one Home Show I invited him home for supper without telling Cathy - aside from being wonderful company he soon put Cathy at ease - she was panic stricken at the thought of entertaining a top chef on short notice!! Quite a night and we have retold the story often.
We shall remember Maurice with fondness and gratitude at having been allowed to share a little of his life.

My sincere condolences to the family for their loss.
I met Maurice in the early seventies when he first came to Canada. He was the Sous Chef at the Nova Scotian Hotel.
His flair for presentation, a patient teacher of his craft and sense of humor, no matter what the pressures,
He added to my own career and was a great addition to our Tourism in Nova Scotia.
RIP....

Although I had never met Maurice I have had the pleasure to call his son Jean-Pierre one of my best friends.
Jean-Pierre often spoke highly of his father and shared many humorous stories from the trade shows where they worked together or to the hot days whipping up waffles at the Wharf Rat Rallies and all the times in between growing up in his youth. Without knowing him these stories bring a smile to my face when I think of them.
Maurices ingenuity, creativity and of course humour have not been lost as I see those qualities in Jean-Pierre and I’m sure the many other friends, family and apprentices who worked under his wing along the way.
We express our most deepest condolences to the Thiebaut family. May the memories you have bring you comfort in this difficult time. Maurice will be missed but not forgotten.

My deepest condolences to the family. I first met Maurice at the Digby Pines in 1985 when I work there for the summer he was a great manager and very easy to talk to. But I really got to know him when I work at Bonne Cuisine under his good friend Margaret Carson. He would come in with his jokes and laughs and make everyone laugh. He was a practical jokester. He will be missed. Thanks for all the laughs and we will see each other again some day.
