‘AD’ was our kind, quietly spoken, intelligent and cool (great) aunt. She was a classy lady who reminded me of a Hollywood film star.
My fondest memories are of attending her wonderfully hosted and beautifully prepared holiday meals to which she invited the entire family.
AD knit beautifully. For some years she would call each of my sisters and me in turn to her kitchen to ask us to choose the wool colours for our Lopi sweaters. I loved them. And her.
AD always had interesting and humorous tales of her travels over the years which she would share with me over a cuppa when I visited her at the old house. When she moved to the apartment, I paid a visit whenever I returned to visit NS. By this time she seemed more interested in listening to my tales.
When I moved away, Aunt Doris and I corresponded via snail mail, sending cards and letters with updates.
I will miss these. And her.

I have so many wonderful memories of visits with my cousin Dorrie (23 years older than I but always young at heart!) starting when I was 2 years old, on my first trip to Nova Scotia to be introduced to my Dad's family. We were 2 of the 8 cousins on her Mother's side.I remember fondly her hear husband Ches, who used to love to take us on drives around Dartmouth and Halifax. And I remember the joy when Linda and Russell joined their family...no children were more loved! Anyone who visited in the years when the kids were young would remember the fabulous child sized car that Ches built for Russell...I can still picture it! Mum and I, as landlubbers from Ontario who LOVED seafood, were ALWAYS treated to clam chowder and a lobster roll upon our arrival for summertime visits. In latter years, with my Mom, Ches and 6 years ago Russell having left us, my visits with Dorrie would be full of reminiscences about the wonderful extended family we were both part of. Her quiet voice, with it's lovely lilting NS accent, will be missed, as will her quick sense of humour and her loving caring ways. Thanks for all the knowledge and love you shared about our family Dorrie. May you Rest in Peace knowing how much you were loved by the family and will be always fondly remembered. My condolences to Linda...know that your family is here for you!

Linda & Bill: So sorry to hear of the loss of your mum, Linda. Peter and I have know Doris for a very long time, through Woodlawn Church, as well as I believe you knew Peter’s Sister, Heather during school years. She was a very kind and loving person, and thought the world of you. She lived a long full life, and that you can be thankful for. The aging process is not an easy one, I know from Personal Experience, My mother (95) is in a nursing home now, has been for going on three years, and memory is failing every day a bit more. It is a hard thing to witness, we feel so helpless. Our condolences to you and the family.
On a happy note, I listen to Bill’s posts on line most all the time, to I say hello to Bill too. I have played some to Mum in the past, but now I am not sure she would remember you. Mum was always very close to Bill’s mum Helen. Mum used to call her “her little cousin Helen” she was a bit younger than Mum.
Thinking of you both:
Maureen & Peter Woods

Dear Linda and Bill
Ron and I send condolences. We visit Doris’s brick in the wall at Woodlawn when we go to concerts and sent a donation. I still have a supply of handknit dishcloths. They don't make them like that anymore, nor do they make people like our parents' generation. They went through a lot. I am reminded every day when I use the dishcloths. I am glad I got to hear quite a few of her stories about growing up in Amherst Point. I have fond memories of the farm and fresh beets.
