I am Jean’s eldest grandchild, and I am so grateful to have had her as my Grandmother. She was a strong, kind, and many-talented woman who I really admire. I have so many precious and wonderful memories of the special times that we shared that I will always cherish. To share just a few: her incredible gardens (edible and ornamental) that were both beautiful and delicious; picking and eating fresh carrots, peas, and raspberries that she grew on the farm; feeding the hens and collecting their nest laid eggs, early morning breakfasts together of toast with cream cheese and marmite, which I love to this day; so many lovely Birthday and Christmas cards; Christmas on the farm with the big beautiful Christmas Tree, and her amazing home cooked meals — her baking was spectacular and her shortbread and butter tarts were my favourite treats and still the best I’ve ever had; getting to visit and interact with all of animals on the farm with her, especially the bunnies and the babies (lambs, chicks, kittens) — she would even set up a little pup tent and put all of the kittens in it with me so that I could play and snuggle with them, and give them names, like Fluffy, Fuzz and Furball; the outings that she would take me on as kid — we’d play bowling, then go shopping at Carlingwood Mall in Ottawa where we’d get some food and she would buy me a gift that I got to pick out; the assorted hard candies with soft centres that she would bring out in the car as a treat on our drives; birdwatching together from the farm house kitchen and her telling me what the different birds were and showing them to me in the bird books so that I could learn more about them — she and I both especially loved the bright red cardinals, and I still think of her whenever I see one. There are so many other great experiences with and memories of my Grandma that I will always treasure. I miss her very much and wish that we’d had more time together.
The first time that I looked out my front window after hearing that she’d passed, I hoped that I would see a cardinal as I felt like it would be a sign sent from Grandma to tell me she was well and happy and to be comforted by that. I opened my curtains and looked out, and there he was, a beautiful bright red cardinal proudly perched on my cedar tree right in front of me, and he started singing happily. Thank you for everything Grandma; I love you always.

We miss Jean & Bob here in Aylesford. Their contributions to this community were many. Jean was a wonderful hostess holding annual gatherings of Lions & Lionesses. Tireless volunteers who
continuously gave their very best.
Condolences to all their family.

Although our time with Jean was short, she touched many of us at Au Logis and she will be missed!
